His name is Jeter and I am pretty obsessed with him. His litter box needed to go in our downstairs powder room…where my scale used to be. In setting up his stuff I took my scale and put it down in the basement.
Then the holidays came.
They were fabulous and I ate and drank and luxuriated. It was bliss. I also had two weeks off from work and blogging.
I spent them in sweatpants, on the couch, reading, watching hours worth of Shark Tank and noshing on delicious things.
This morning I went into the basement to get a roll of paper towels and saw my scale. So, for a lark, I stepped on it. Then I used the roll of paper towels to sop up my tears. Hehe, just kidding. I did gasp though. I knew I was eating badly. The other night I had like ten Cadbury Eggs. I am not shocked that I have gained weight. I am more shocked that my pants haven’t split.
Now that I have seen the numbers and the undeniable proof, I have decided to stop eating so much and shed the weight.
As much as I love bacon, fried foods and chocolate, I have decided to start eating better. At some point I know I need to rejoin the gym and I just bought a new pair of sneakers to motivate me. Wish me luck. I may be a hangry, awful girl for the next few weeks. I hate to deprive myself.
Wow, I havent done one of these posts for ages! I see things periodically that I would like to share but then I get so caught up in my day and when I go back to create a link love post I’ve totally forgotten what I intended to include. Anywho, here are the links I am loving today:
1. Here is a roundup of Tiny Fey and Amy Poehler’s best jokes from the Golden Globes. There definitely some gems! I loved when they made fun of Bill Cosby!
2. Is it anyone else’s resolution for 2015 to get more sleep? Here are some tips on how to sleep better tonight.
3. Here is a roundup of the best multipurpose tools to have in your kitchen.
4. A smart collar with wifi, a video camera and gps for your dog. Ummmmm, is it wrong that I feel like I NEED ONE for my cat? Jeter loves technology.
What are you guys loving from around the web this week?
Good morning lovies! I hope you all had a fabulous weekend! I sure did! If you follow along on social media you probably saw a few pictures I posted to Instagram of books and my cat. That was how I spent the majority of my time and it was bliss.
On Friday night I arrived home from work to find a paperback copy of the new Marian Keyes book, The Woman Who Stole My Life. Obviously I started jumping with joy. I mentioned that I had been dying to read this novel in this post. Usually I download books to my iPad but this one is not due out in the United States until July and I couldn’t wait so I ordered it in paperback and had it shipped from the UK. I am about half way through (it is pretty long) and so far I am loving it!
A lot of my Saturday and Sunday looked like this:
I did manage to get myself to the nail salon to get a mani/pedi. The vast wall of nail colors intimidated me and I would up going with a classic french manicure.
While getting my digits painted I overheard a girl next to me telling her friend about eating White Castle for lunch and immediately became obsessed with the idea of having it for dinner. (Does that ever happen to you? You hear the name of a restaurant and MUST eat there?) I called Billy (who hates fast food) and somehow managed to convince him that it would be delicious…AND IT WAS! Afterwards we played Uno with T before more reading and bed. (Saturday nights at Bannon Castle are WILD lately.)
Sunday was more reading, laundry, cleaning and napping. I topped off a perfect day of relaxation with the Golden Globes. Who did you guys love? My favorite of the night was Leslie Mann. I feel like she is so underrated! She always looks flawless and she is so funny and talented! I loved her green earrings, ombre hair and her dress. Who were your faves of the night?
I am linking up with my girl, Biana for Weekending today! Thanks for hosting, B!
For the past few months I have found myself in a terrible book slump. I have started a few, only to become disappointed and quit reading. I have also ordered some books and not been inspired to pick them up. I am not sure what my problem has been. Thankfully, that appears to be over now. I visited Amazon yesterday and realized that loads of my favorite authors have put out new books and I have a whole list of lovely novels that I cant wait to dive right in to. Here are a few of them:
Big Little Lies by Liane Moriarty. I know Liane Moriarty is very well known for having written The Husband’s Secret but my favorite book from her is What Alice Forgot. I found it really relatable. I hope Big Little Lies is just as good! I downloaded it to my iPad last night and I am counting down the minutes until I can start reading on my commute home.
The Woman I Wanted to Be by Diane Von Furstenberg. I don’t know a huge amount about Ms. Von Furstenberg except that she is successful designer with an incredible sense of style and she used to be a fixture at Studio 54 back in the day. I am hoping she includes some juicy details into this tome!
Saving Grace by Jane Green. I have been a Jane Green fan for years and have read all her books. Her last novel, Tempting Fate, was totally vile. I found her characters annoying, whiny and totally unrelatable. I am hoping that that was just a one-off and she returns to writing books as enjoyable as Jemima J and Bookends.
Shopaholic to the Stars by Sophie Kinsella. I love this whole series. It is very whimsical and fun. Perfect beach read. I just wish I were actually on a beach reading it instead of suffering during these 19 degree NYC days! Brrrrr!
The Carrier by Sophie Hannah. As you can tell by my list of books above – I tend to gravitate towards the happy, girly stuff. This one is different. This is a crime novel featuring two detectives and it will be dark and dirty and impossible to put down. Sophie Hannah’s stories remind me of Gone Girl. The characters are not always likable but you are so intrigued by the story that you have to keep reading to find out how the book ends.
I love all things sparkly, pretty, shiny and happy. I also have borderline shopaholic and hoarder tendencies, so it makes sense that I am a total beauty supply junkie. I order new products constantly. Some work great and some are flops. Here are my faves for 2014:
OPI – Big Apple Red. I have worn this on my nails for most of the past year. I use OPI’s GelColor and I am extremely pleased with how well it holds up. I head to the salon every other weekend and soak off the old color and have a new one applied. It takes about an hour and my nails look shiny and perfect for the next two weeks. It is practically indestructible. Big Apple Red is the perfect shade of polish. The color is classic and flatters all skin tones. I cant put black or dark colors on my nails. As a New Yorker I tend to wear black clothes most of the time and the addition of dark polish feels sad to me. Big Apple Red dresses up all my black.
Urban Decay – Naked 3 Palette. I love this collection of colors. They have a rose gold tint that is extremely flattering with my skin/eye/hair color. There are so many online tutorials for this product that I am still learning new ways to use it. The shadows are pigmented with an easy to blend formula and I find that they don’t crease as easily as other brands.
Dr. Brandt Skincare – Do Not Age Time Reversing Cream. One of my biggest complaints in 2014 was dark under-eye circles and the beginnings of some wrinkles. (Sidenote – getting old is terrible.) I have tried numerous products that claimed to help with one or both of those gripes and failed miserably. This cream really makes a difference! It gets my stamp of approval and I can attest to the fact that it actually works.
Bumble and Bumble Sunday Shampoo. I have mentioned this product a few times on ALG. I absolutely love it. It is a clarifying shampoo that you use once a week. It gets rid of all that styling build-up and leaves your hair bright, shiny and squeaky clean. I also enjoy it’s minty fragrance. This will definitely stay in my beauty arsenal for 2015.
Philosophy Hope in a Jar Night. I did a post on this product last year here. There are so many face creams out there and I find this one to be truly exceptional. It makes my skin so clear and my pores so small. I highly recommend it.
SK-II Facial Treatment Mask. I am obsessed with these masks! Since they are kind of pricey I do use them sparingly but if you have a special occasion and are looking to really make your skin glow this is what you need. They will not let you down! I did a full review on them here.
What were your favorite beauty products for 2014? I am always looking for recommendations!
