Well, it is officially that time of year!  I have started my Christmas shopping and the holiday party invites are rolling in.  Last week I got some great gift inspiration from the team over at Momtrends.  They held their annual #MTHoliday Soiree at Studio 1315 in New York City and it did not disappoint!  Here are some of my favorite brands and products that were featured:

Hasbro.  Even though I am a little hurt that they did away with my favorite pink character in Hungry Hungry Hippos, I still love and own every single game on this table!  I enjoyed hearing about how they are being updated to make them more current.  For example, Chromecast and Hasbro are collaborating on an app called “Monopoly Here & Now: Big Screen Edition”.

Fun fact, we got a Jenga in our swag bags and Taylor and I have been playing it constantly.  Here is some video of me getting my butt kicked by my ten year old…

POM Wonderful.  I love the taste of pomegranate but I have always been too intimidated to cook with it on my own.  At this event I learned an easy technique on how to open them (in a bowl of water so that the white membrane floats to the top) and got to sample some delicious drinks and recipes.   I never would have thought that plantain chips with guacamole and pomegranate would be such a yummy combo!

Epson.  I must confess that I don’t even own a color printer right now because dealing with replacement ink cartridges was so expensive and inconvenient that I just gave up.  After meeting the rep from Epson I may give it another shot though.  Their new Epson PictureMate PM-400 Personal Photo Lab wireless printer is so small that it can fit in a large purse, it uses low-cost replacement ink bottles and it prints gorgeous pictures!  I was really impressed by it (especially it’s size).  It definitely packs a lot of bang for the buck and would make a great gift.

Tessemaes.  These dressings, dips and sauces are dairy free, gluten free, have no sugar added  and yet they still taste great!  I have no idea how they managed it but it’s the truth.   I think they would be a fabulous edition to the stocking of a foodie in your life.  I plan to put a jar of the Chesapeake Mayonnaise in my Dad’s stocking!

Happy Friday!

Happy Friday you guys!  This weekend is all about packing, packing and more packing for me.  I am moving next Saturday into my new apartment and I have not even put ONE single thing in a box.  Pray for me because I am a hot mess!  I THINK everything should work out fine in the end though.  The apartment is starting to come together and I am really excited to finally live there!

Today, I am linking up with AprilAmanda and Della for my Friday Favorites!  Here goes…

1. Not Stressing.  There have been a lot of snafus happening this week involving paint.  I don’t know why.  I am just jinxed I guess.  The first issue was when the paint at Home Depot got screwed up somehow and my landlord painted my kitchen and hallway…PURPLE.  I walked in and had a mini-heart attack.  I was so traumatized that I didn’t even photograph it.  Thankfully, he fixed it and it already is the lovely shade of Benjamin Moore Tranquility that I originally requested.

The second issue came when I picked colors for my Master Bedroom.  I showed you guys this inspiration swatch:

In reality it turned out like this:

2015-11-18 08.14.08

I would love to tell you that it was less bright in person.  It wasn’t.  It was actually way worse…like blinding.  Which leads me to my mantra in these past few days….

I have a painter coming in on Saturday to prime and paint my crazy looking bedroom.  Thank Goodness!

2.  New Direction.  I think I am going to go with something more like this:

1d6e164180c9f6a5b9118209f18b51b4 (1) 06f4b8ec8123d3e66178077926bd567d

The second color may be the one.  It is Benjamin Moore’s Sugarcane.  Has anyone ever used it?

3.  Lighting.  I snatched up two of these gold lovelies for my master bedroom!  I am so excited about it because I had them in my cart at but when I went to check out they were gone and sold out!  I was so bummed but I looked back this afternoon and was able to buy them!  Woot woot!

4.  Chalk Paint.  I scoured the internet and went to tons of furniture stores but I was not able to find a kitchen table and chairs that was right for my kitchen.  Then, I stumbled upon a solid wood set on a website like shoppok that would be perfect but needs to be painted and I bought it (despite not being particularly handy or having any experience painting anything).  I am going to do that tonight using chalk paint and it should be an experience.  I have been reading tons of tutorials on Pinterest and I am eager to see it turns out fabulous or winds up being a Pinterest Fail.

5.  Vanity.  I just found this one on Spoonful of Style (she has amazing taste) and realized it was from Ikea!  I love it and it is so affordable!  I really want to get more organized in my new place with where I do my makeup.  Right now I sit on the floor and use my full length mirror.  I spread my makeup out and Jeter steals various brushes and then I have to stop what I am doing to chase him.  It is a disaster.

Alright my loves, I hope you all have a fabulous weekend!  xo

Oh boy, do I hate the cold.  The thought of it just gave me the chills.  Don’t get me wrong, I know it has it’s perks.  I love snow days, hot chocolate and the holidays but I despise commuting during the Winter!  As a New Yorker, I take mass transit to work every day and Fall through Spring means being stuffed into a small subway car with tons of  people and their germs.  Today, I am sharing my purse essentials for escaping their cooties and staying sane!

I usually stock up around this time of year on the items listed below so I am prepared and can avoid sickness at all costs.  I grabbed most of these products at Walmart last weekend.  They have everything you need to stay healthy and happy (even in the middle of Winter).

Walmart Collage

1. Hand Sanitizer.  This is an absolute MUST!  I put it on immediately after getting off the subway.  It kills all the gross germs I picked up while holding on to the pole.

2.  Advil.  There is nothing like being delayed on the subway with a headache or cramps.  Suddenly, the train just stops and you have no idea how long you will be there and there is no way to exit.  That has happened to me enough to know that it is a necessity to carry a little vial of Advil.  Nothing’s stronger, longer lasting or better on your tough aches and pains than Advil, and nothing works on more pains than Advil (among OTC pain relievers).

3.  Tissues.  I carry a little packet in my bag year round (it is the Mama in me).  They are vital in the colder months though.

4.  Chapstick.  I just picked this one up at Walmart last weekend and I am OBSESSED with it!  It is 100% natural, keeps my lips from getting chapped and it smells divine!

Chap Stick Total Hydration

5. Emergen-C Immune+ Chewables.  I have been eating these like they are candy lately.  This is the time of year when everyone starts coming down with colds so these are crucial to staying healthy.  They provide immune support and have more vitamin C than 10 oranges.  They also contain B vitamins to support energy naturally.

Emergen-C Chewables

6.  Portable Cell Phone Charger.  There are no power outlets on the subway and being without electronics to distract you is awful.  I make sure to have a small, fully-charged power bank in my purse constantly.

7.  Snack.  I try not to eat on public transportation because I think it is rude.  Sometimes, I start to believe that I am the only one that subscribes to that notion though.  Fun fact, there was a girl next to me yesterday (like two inches from my face) eating fried chicken.  I could have leaned in and easily taken a bite, lol.  While I would not usually eat on a packed subway (especially something with a strong smell…like fried chicken) I do always carry a small, non-messy snack just in case of an emergency.

Kind Bar

8.  Headphones.  They are crucial during every Season but especially so in the Winter.  It is essential to me to be able to drown out the coughing and sneezing and pretend I am somewhere tropical.  Sometimes I have an issue with my headphones getting tangled inside my tote bag, so I DIYed a cute little holder last week!   It was so easy!  After cleaning out an empty mint container with soap and water, I gave it a coat of gold spray paint (left over from when I created my Halloween costume) and then decorated it with some glittery foam stickers.  Now, I don’t have to worry about fishing them out of my bag and working out knots when I could be rocking out. Headphones are a must for me, and I think a lot of people will be able to agree with me about it. If you don’t have any headphones just yet or are thinking about buying some, then you might want to check out a website like There are loads of different types of headphones that you can get, you just have to find the one that works best for you.

Cinnamon Roll Pancakes With Cream Cheese Drizzle – #12DaysOfPancakes

This shop has been compensated by Collective Bias and its advertiser. All opinions are mine alone.  #12DaysOfPancakes #CollectiveBias

Good morning loves!  I hope you all had a fabulous weekend!  Mine was so fun!  I was able to get a lot done for my move (although I still feel nowhere close to being ready).  I shopped, packed and ran errands.  I also made some delicious pancakes yesterday!

Saturday mornings in my house are pretty lackluster (if I am being honest).  Taylor and I are usually worn out from the week and we sleep in and then nosh on cereal or order egg sandwiches.  But Sunday, oh Sunday.  That is where the cooking magic happens!  I am rested and I feel inspired to create a special morning meal.

Sometimes, I make egg white omelettes with mix-ins and some fruit, sometimes yogurt parfaits but I would say a good seventy-five percent of the time we have pancakes.  They are our fave.  I mean, what is better than a soft fluffy pancake?  Nothing.

This weekend I made Cinnamon Roll Pancakes with a Cream Cheese Drizzle.  This is one of my favorite recipes because it sounds impressive, tastes fantastic and is SUPER easy.  If you follow along with this blog you may noticed that this pretty much my cooking criteria.  I want a lot of bang for very little cooking buck.  I want all the ooohs and ahhhhs with as little work as possible.

I picked up all my ingredients for this recipe at Walmart.  I wound up shopping there on Saturday night at 11 pm.  (Billy’s Father is in the hospital so I had to wait until he was home from visiting him and could watch Taylor before I could go.)  Did you know they are open until 12 am?  That is ideal for night owls (such as myself).

#12DaysOfPancakes Walmart Aunt Jemima

Sunday morning I was a little foggy from my late night shopping excursion but I still wanted to make a nice breakfast for Taylor so I got to work.

The first step in creating these pancakes is to prepare the batter.  I do this first so it has time to sit and thicken up for a few minutes before I start cooking.  I always use Aunt Jemima Complete Pancake Mix.  I think it tastes fantastic and it is so simple (you just add water) that it leaves me room to focus on being creative with sauces, syrups or mix-ins.

Pancake Mix

Once I poured in my water and stirred up the batter (do NOT overmix or you will get tough pancakes) I set it aside and moved on to the cinnamon swirl portion.  This part is pretty easy.  I just plopped a half a stick of butter, a 1/4 of brown sugar and a tablespoon of cinnamon into a small saucepan and heated it on low until it all melted together.  I gave it a quick stir and then spooned it into a quart-sized zip-top plastic bag and threw it in the freezer.  This way it would cool down quickly and thicken up.

Cinnamon Swirl

Cinnamon Swirl MeltedNext, I started making my pancakes.  I got out my griddle pan and put it on the stove over low heat.  Give it a few minutes to warm up and then hit it with a little bit of non-stick cooking spray to make sure the pancakes wont stick.  Spoon out your pancake and then leave it until it starts to bubble.

Pancake One

While you are waiting for the bubbles, go over to the freezer and pull out your baggie.  It should have cooled down and firmed up to a paste-like consistency.  Give it a few squeezes to make sure the butter and sugar are combined and then snip the very tip of the corner so that you can use it as a piping bag.

Starting at the center of your bubbling pancake, carefully pipe a swirl onto it resembling a cinnamon bun.  Don’t get it too close to the edge or it will make a mess.  (Yes, I learned that the hard way.)

#12DaysOfPancakes Walmart Aunt Jemima Pancakes

Leave the pancake for another 2-3 minutes (until the cinnamon sugar swirl is starting to bubble and melt).

Use a large, thin spatula to flip the pancake quickly and carefully.  There will be some splatter of the melted sugar mixture.  That is okay and to be expected.  Your pancake will still look and taste fantastic.  Leave the pancake for another 3-4 minutes so the brown sugar can caramelize.  This is not a pancake that you want to turn over a million times.  The sugar mixture is liquid and the more you turn it the more it is going to make a mess.  You should really opt for one flip.  Cook the pancake on one side and then flip it and cook the other.  You will also need to wipe down the pan in between pancakes.

Another tip I have for pancake-making is to put the pancakes on a glass plate and cover them with plastic wrap to keep them warm and soft as you start on the next batch (depending on how many you are making).

Once your pancakes are cooked you can just eat them with syrup.  That is what I did.  Taylor had other ideas though.  She NEEDED a cream cheese glaze.  She told me that it felt wrong to eat them without it.  Haha!  Kids are hilarious.

Luckily, I had all the ingredients in my fridge to whip one up.  As a lazy chef I did not wait for my cream cheese to reach room temperature.  I just threw it in a small saucepan with some butter, powdered sugar and vanilla extract.  I waited for it all to melt together and occasionally stirred it.  Once it was done I spooned it over Taylor’s pancakes while it was still hot.  I ate a bite of hers and it was VERY tasty.

Happy Friday!

Happy Friday and also happy Friday the 13th!  Just like Jason up there I may indulge in a nice alcoholic beverage.  I am not a huge drinker but I could really go for a nice cold glass of white wine.  This week has been a productive one but I am worn out and ready for the weekend!  Today, I am linking up with AprilAmanda and Della for my Friday Favorites!  Here goes…

1.  Taylor’s Room.  The apartment decor is coming together!  Taylor has already chosen her bedding (which we got for a STEAL at the PB outlet) and I ordered her a fabulous chandelier.  It is going to be a very fun room.

2.  Moving Announcements.  Speaking of chandeliers…how cute are these?  I spotted some bridal shower invitations on Zazzle and changed the wording to make them super girly moving announcements.

3. Pioneer Woman’s No Bake Peanut Butter Bars.  Drool.  These look amazing and I am all about the no-bake part.

4.  Moody Tee.  I ordered this last week when I was in a funk.  Sometimes you need to let everyone know to steer clear.   I fully plan on wearing it in the future on days when I am a moody nightmare.

5.  Sephora Flash.  Have you guys heard of this?  You pre-pay $10 to get free, unlimited, two-day shipping for an ENTIRE YEAR at Sephora!  That is a great deal!

Speaking of Sephora…congratulations to Meg D. who won our $250 Sephora Gift Card Giveaway!  I hope you are buying some wonderful things today, girl!
