Happy Friday!

Happy Friday Loves!  Can you believe that next week is Christmas?  That is so crazy to me!  This month has just flown by!  I have been doing major last minute shopping online lately and I am pretty excited for the holiday.  Billy and I got Taylor an epic gift and I am dying to give it to her already.    I would love to spill the details but she reads the blog sometimes and I don’t want to spoil the surprise.  I cant wait to post about it next week though!

Today, I am linking up with AprilAmanda and Della for my Friday Favorites!  Here goes…

1. Larry David Holiday Shirt.  I know LD is an acquired taste but I LOVE HIM!  LOVE.  Capital L.  So, when I spotted this shirt I couldn’t help but scoop it up.  This is my new holiday fave!

2.  Meowy Christmas.  Speaking of fun Christmas apparel…I could not help but buy this.  I actually purchased one for myself, Taylor and my Sister in Law so we could all wear them together on Christmas and Crazy Cat Lady out together.

3.  Christmas Cocktails.  This list from Huffington Post has some great ideas!  I cater on Christmas every year because I want to relax and enjoy the holiday but I would NOT be opposed to creating a cute, signature cocktail.

4.  Stuart Weitzman Lowland Boots.  I need these in my life!  Hopefully Santa is feeling extra generous this year!

“Dressing well is a form of good manners.” – Tom Ford

The above quote is one of my favorites, and I think the idea behind it can also be applied to keeping a clean and organized home. When your house is tidy, it shows guests that you care about their comfort and well-being.

My family lives in North Carolina, and I miss them tremendously. They drive up to stay with us every year at Christmas, and it is so important to me that when they are here they know that they are loved.

Part of making visitors feel welcome is ensuring that you have everything they will need (such as towels, sheets and blankets), and when you live in a small space it can be difficult to find room to store those items.

Here are my favorite ways to keep my apartment organized:

Ziploc® Space Bags® are your friend.

I recently moved from a three bedroom house to a two bedroom apartment. Part of me loved purging unnecessary items and ridding my life of clutter. The other part realized that the holidays were fast approaching, and I would have guests staying with me. I couldn’t just chuck all the extra towels that used to live in my giant linen closet because my out of town family would need to use them. Then, I started to wonder where I would store them for the rest of the year (after my guests had gone home) and I panicked.

I realized that I had to find a solution to this storage issue so I went to Lowe’s and bought a few boxes of Ziploc® Space Bags®.

They are the perfect way to organize seasonal items and they are also SUPER easy to use. You put your items in the bag, close it and then suck the air out of the vent with a vacuum. It compresses everything in there nice and flat and provides 3 times the storage*.

Plus, they will keep the items inside the bag clean and secure since they are airtight, waterproof and protect against bugs, moths, dirt, mildew and odors.

Buy double duty furniture whenever possible.

A great way to save space is to buy furniture with hidden storage.  One of my favorite pieces is a standing mirror that has shelves inside for perfume and makeup and hooks for jewelry storage.

IMG_4522 IMG_4529I also have a big ottoman in my living room that I use to store extra blankets for when Taylor and I want to snuggle on the couch or company stays over.

For this apartment, I knew I would need an area near the front door where we would be able to sit down and put on our shoes so I opted for a bench with baskets. I keep our hats, gloves and scarves in there. There are also slots for shoes.

Put up hooks on the backs of doors.

I have a hook on the back of every door. It is a convenient place to hang towels, and I put my bulky robes up there so I don’t have to waste precious drawer space on them.

Don’t overlook the outsides of cabinets.

If you don’t have a lot of counter space in your kitchen, you may want to consider reserving that valuable real estate for appliances (such as a microwave or toaster). I purchased these spice bottle holders since I didn’t have anywhere to keep a spice rack. This area would also be a convenient place to hang potholders, spatulas and other cooking utensils or measuring cups and spoons.

Now that my daughter is ten she is starting to pay more attention to her appearance.  Obviously, I don’t let her wear makeup out of the house yet.  (She should really thank me for that because she is still experimenting and at this point her signature look is bright blue eye shadow and pink lipstick like Barbie.)  She takes a lot of care in the morning with her clothing, hair and earrings and I recently decided it would be nice to buy her a special fragrance.

Last week I went into CVS to pick up wrapping paper and ribbons for my Christmas presents and ventured into the perfume aisle.  I have to say that I was really surprised with the amount of inexpensive, name-brand gift sets that they carry there!  There are some brands which are making it so much easier to pay for perfume now though, such as afterpay for perfume. It certainly helps when you are trying to budget for the holidays. The Holidays are so busy, and trying to figure out the perfect gift for everyone in your family can be stressful,  but thankfully, Coty Holiday Gift Sets bring ease to gift buying.  They have scents from Beyonce, Vera Wang and Nautica (just to name a few).  The one that really caught my eye for Taylor was Katy Perry’s Mad Potion.  It came complete with perfume, body lotion and shower gel and it was only $19.99!  Plus, there is a $4 off coupon here.

Each year I take Taylor to see a concert.  It is kind of our “thing”.  One of our absolute favorites was Katy Perry’s Prismatic World Tour.  We went to see it in the Summer of 2013 and it was an excellent show.  I love that we can do this together and we create so many fun memories rocking out to our favorite music.

I thought it would be fun to wrap the gift set with white paper and some pretty foil washi tape instead of the usual red and green paper I am putting on everyone else’s gifts.  I bought a three pack of it here and I decided to use it to create a Christmas tree pattern.  The best part about washi tape is that if you don’t like your design, you can just peel it off and start over and it wont damage the wrapping paper underneath.

I hope my little lady loves her perfume and every time she wears it she thinks of me and our fun time together at the Katy Perry show!

Here are some more fun ways to gift a memory this holiday season.

‘Tis the Season for festive holiday parties and delicious treats!  Last weekend I was invited to my friend’s annual holiday potluck.  My sweet tooth has been in full effect lately so I emailed her right away to let her know I was planning to bring a dessert.  After some Googling for inspiration, I decided to make OREO Cookie Balls.  I have always seen them floating around on Pinterest and the internet but I have never made them before.  I assumed they would be complicated but in reality there are only THREE ingredients and they are no bake!  Score!

I was able to pick up the ingredients at Walmart while doing some Christmas shopping.  I love simple recipes like that where I can get everything I need during one trip to one store.  There are no outlandish ingredients that I have search for or order online.

I decided to make a candy cane platter for the party so I bought a package of Golden OREOs for the red balls and Mint OREOs for the white ones.

The first step in the recipe calls for you to finely crush your OREOs.  I just moved so (of course) I couldn’t locate my food processor.  I had to do it the old fashioned way with a Ziploc baggie and a rolling pin.  (Full disclosure – I assigned this job to Taylor and she LOVED it!  What kid wouldn’t be excited about smashing things with a rolling pin?)

Oreos Crushed

After the cookies were pulverized I transferred them to a bowl and mixed in 8 ounces of cream cheese.  Then, I rolled them into one inch balls and popped them into the freezer to harden.

Later in the day I went back to coat the balls in chocolate and here is where I share a cautionary tale with you.  Even though I have worked with chocolate before, I learned the hard way during this recipe that water-based food coloring and chocolate DO NOT MIX.  They will cause your chocolate to seize.  For those that do not know what seizing is, (and I did not until I was watching it happen) when chocolate seizes it goes from gorgeous melted liquid to a playdoh-like consistency that will not liquefy (no matter how much you heat it up).  After it reaches this point it will only burn and stink up your whole kitchen.  Chocolate is oil-based and water and oil don’t mix.  If you want to color chocolate you must use oil or powder-based food coloring or purchase pre-colored chocolate melts from a craft store.  Lesson learned.

After I melted new chocolate and colored it with oil-based food coloring it was smooth sailing!  I put my OREO cookie balls into mini baking cups and arranged them into a candy cane shape.  They were a huge hit at my friend’s party and since the recipe is so easily modified (you can use different flavored OREOs, colored chocolate or decorations) I can definitely see myself making them again in the future.

Holiday Party Attire BCBG Give Love Get Love

I absolutely love this time of year!  Taylor and I have spent the last few nights decorating, trimming the tree and then curling up to watch a holiday movie.  So far, we have seen Elf, The Santa Claus, The Grinch and tonight we plan to tune in to National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation (my all-time favorite).  In addition to the decorating and gift-giving, I am also enjoying the holiday parties!  I have my office’s shindig next week so I teamed up with to put together a look for it.  6PM-2015-Snowflake-Site (1)

I wanted something fun and festive (but still work appropriate), so I decided to go with a top and skirt from BCBG Max Azria.  BCBG is my favorite brand and carries so many of their pieces at up to 70% off! I love the ruffles on the BCBG Max Azria Lorain Pleat Patched Front Top!  It is delicate and festive (but not too tight or binding that you need to think twice about having that second slice of pie).  #holidaygluttony Give Love Get Love Review BCBG Lorain Top BCBG Pavel Butterfly Skirt Nine West Doreen Pumps The skirt I chose is called the Pavel Butterfly Jacquard Straight Skirt and it is long enough to be work appropriate but the fun pattern makes it perfect for a night out.  It is extremely comfortable and the fabric has some give to it so you don’t need to size up.  It hugs in all the right places and is very flattering. I also got my Nine West Doreen peep-toe pumps from and they are fabulous!  The heel is not too high and they are still very sexy.  I will definitely be wearing these on a future date night!
