2016 Summer Reading List – Final Verdict

2016 Summer Reading List Final Verdict

I did  a lot of reading this Summer!  Much of it was Jojo Moyes and not on this list but I also tackled the books shown above.  Some of them were GREAT and some not so much.  Here are my thoughts on the last few novels from my Summer Reading List.  I reviewed a few of them in this post.  I will also include a breakdown on what  I would recommend and which ones I think you should skip at the bottom.

One Less Problem Without You by Beth Harbison

This may have been my least favorite novel of the Summer.  It fell extremely flat for me.  The protagonist in this book was villanized to the point that it was not even believable.  I tend to think that most people have both good and bad qualities but this person was made out to be an awful, evil human being with no redeeming qualities and all the other characters were good and perfect and it just was not believable.  I thought the way that it ended was extremely obvious as well.  I like Beth Harbison’s book usually but I suggest that you skip this one.

 Sweetbitter by Stephanie Danler

I wanted to like this book.  I loved the cover and there was a lot of hype surrounding it this Summer.  I have to say that I found it disappointing though.  I think it has to due a lot with the fact that I am a native New Yorker.  A lot of the things mentioned were not believable (such as the easy way the main character lucks into such a fabulous and cheap apartment and job) and I also felt like the writing was very thin.  I was not a fan.

The Nest by Cynthia D’Aprix Sweeney

So, funny story about this book…I read a description of it and I thought it sounded so boring that I saved it for last.  I was dreading reading it and kept putting it off.  Then, a few pages in there was a car accident while the driver was being given a handjob and I realized that I had GROSSLY misjudged The Nest.  It was funny, well written and very entertaining.

Here is a list of all the books from my Summer Reading List ranked from 1 (must read) to 10 (skip).

  1. Falling by Jane Green
  2. The Nest by Cynthia D’Aprix Sweeney
  3. The Secret Keeper by
  4. The Last Letter From Your Lover by Jojo Moyes
  5. The Singles Game by Lauren Weisberger
  6.  First Comes Love by Emily Giffin
  7.  Truly Madly Guilty by Liane Moriarty
  8.  Sweetbitter by Stephanie Danler
  9.  One Less Problem Without You by Beth Harbison

Have you read any of these?  What is on your Fall Reading List?

So like you are not the first person that didn’t love Sweetbitter so I think I am skipping it. I had a few people have not so great reviews about The Nest…but then I hear what you said about it and I am like hmmmm i am intrigued! So I think I am putting it back on my list! I read Truly Madly Guilty and First Comes Love, both were decent reads but nothing mind blowing for me. I love Jane Green and Falling was already on my list. I am on the wait list for it at my library. I love Moyes as well and need to read The Last Letter From Your Lover.
