Happy Weekend!

Happy Friday!  I have been looking forward to this weekend for a while.  Taylor and I are heading out to Long Island to hang with our friends.  My bestie just moved into a new house she has been renovating and I cant wait to see the finished product!  It is also my nephew’s birthday party and we got him the cutest bike.  I think he is going to be a pretty happy little guy!

Today, I am linking up with AprilAmanda and Della for my Friday Favorites!  Let’s jump right into them…

1. Fitbit Bracelet Options.  I told you guys last week that I bought myself a Fitbit Flex.  I have to say that after using it for a few days I can understand why people love them.  It has definitely been motivating me to walk more to ensure that I reach my goal of 10k steps per day.  I did a little Googling to see if I could find a more stylish bracelet option and I am in LOVE with this one!  My birthday is coming up and it is definitely making the list!

2.  Blogger Lunch Date.  Leigh Ann from The Sequin Notebook just started working a few blocks over from me so we were able to meet up the other day for fun lunch at Naples 45.  I love when I get to see her!  We have to start doing it more often!

3.  Sparkly Rose Gold Nailpolishes.  I have seen a few shades on Pinterest lately that I am OBSESSED with.  I need to find something similar in gel.  Does anyone have a gorgeous rose gold shade that they can recommend?

4. Chrissy Teigen.  I love her.  I think she is so hilarious and I love how open she is about her struggles with IVF and infertility.  She recently disclosed that she and Jon chose to implant a girl embryo and a bunch of crazies on the internet attacked her.  I think maybe they were assuming she just chucked all the male embryos (instead of saving them for future implantation).  Either way, I love how she shut them down.

Why on Earth would someone think it is appropriate to say this to a stranger about such a personal topic and in such a hateful and awful way?  People like this lady above just blow my mind.  It makes me wonder what she is like in real life.  Does she speak to people she actually knows like this or does she save it for celebrities on Twitter because she doesn’t think they have feelings?   I don’t get it.

5. Baked Honey Marinated Cod.  I love seafood but I don’t make it that much.  One of the big things that holds me back from cooking fish is that I think that it should be purchased fresh and made the same day.  That is limiting (especially when I am at work all day).  I have been trying to eat a bit healthier so last Sunday I had some free time and made tilapia for dinner.  We all LOVED it and it was nice and healthy.  It was so good that it inspired me to make more fresh fish.  How delicious does this cod look?  This will definitely be on the menu at my house soon!

Alright loves, have a fabulous weekend and I will see you back here on Monday!  xo

Getting Cozy With New Starbucks Hot Cocoa K-Cups!

This post was sponsored by Starbucks as part of an Influencer Activation for Influence Central. I received compensation and complimentary products to facilitate my review.

Getting Cozy With Starbucks Hot Cocoa K-Cups

Is there anything better in Winter than snuggling up on your couch with a comfy blanket and a mug of something warm and delicious?  I think not.  Lately, Mother Nature has been confused about which way she is going with the weather in New York.  One day it is Sunny and 55 degrees and another it is freezing and snowing.  For some reason, most of those cold snowy days are happening on the weekends.  I am not complaining though because that means I get to cuddle up with Taylor and our kitties.

You may have seen last week on Insta that I was the lucky recipient of a Cozy Collection from Starbucks and I must say that it really took this weekend’s vegetation up a notch!  T and I have been binge-watching Survivor on Hulu and we are totally obsessed with it.  The addition of the Cozy Collection’s contents were the icing on the cake!

Starbucks® Cozy Collection
This collection includes:

  • A special blanket, perfect for snuggling, cuddling or snoozing
  • A mug to fill with cocoa for a tasty, cozy treat
  • Starbucks® Classic and Salted Carmel K-Cup® pods, made with real cocoa
  • Marshmallows and shortbreads to put the finishing touches on your cocoa
  • $5 Starbucks Card and exclusive offer on Starbucks® Hot Cocoa K Cup® pods

You can enter to win one of your very own here and trust me you want to because the blanket inside is everything.

Starbucks K-Cups

This package came to me at precisely the right time since I recently bought a new Keurig Mini!  Before this I had been solely using an Espresso machine and I missed having a “regular” coffee maker so I could enjoy a cup of drip coffee when the mood struck me.  The Mini is so compact and cute that I figured it would be worth the loss of counter space.

I never anticipated also using it for hot cocoa at the time of it’s purchase but Starbucks changed that with their new K-Cups.  These things are total game-changers!  Now, I can pop in a pod and Taylor and I can enjoy decadent cocoa with the push of a button!

My Cozy Collection came with samples of both of their new flavors, Classic and Salted Caramel.  They are made with real cocoa and non-fat milk and they taste totally luxurious!

To be honest, I have not had hot cocoa in years.  The thought of it brought back memories of instant powder that you mix in with hot water.  The powder would never fully dissolve so there would be weird lumps floating around your drink.

Starbucks K-Cups are the exact opposite of that.  They produce cocoa that smooth, creamy and rich.  Plus, it is extremely easy to make.

Taylor and I loved them so much that we have already ordered more of the classic Hot Cocoa.  There are a few weeks of Winter left and we want to be prepared for more cozy weekends in.

Happy Friday!

happy friday

Woo Hoo!  Friday!  I am gearing up for a pretty fabulous weekend.  Minimal errands, brunch with a girlfriend and getting my hair done.  Not too shabby!

Today, I am linking up with AprilAmanda and Della for my Friday Favorites!  Let’s jump right into them…

1. Keurig Mini.  It is safe to say that I have a pretty serious caffeine addiction.  I just added another coffee brewer to my collection this past weekend.  I have a Nespresso machine but sometimes I want regular drip coffee instead of lattes or espresso.  I had an older Keurig but it was so big that I never used it.  This little guy is perfect though!  There is no water reservoir.  You just pour in the amount you need for one cup in the top, insert your K Cup and press the brew button.  Easy peasy!

2. Kitchen Island.  I mentioned a few weeks ago that I was stalking the Crate & Barrel Belmont Island.  It was pretty expensive at $596.75.  (That is after using a 10% off coupon, too!)

I am pretty proud to say that I didn’t buy it.  Instead I found something more reasonably priced.    Years ago I would have just bought it anyway on a credit card and justified to myself that we were getting our taxes back soon or that it was the star of the kitchen and needed to be a decent piece.  That landed us in some pretty heavy debt.  Since selling our house I am totally debt free and it is a really nice feeling.  I am trying to make more responsible financial decisions.  Thanks to the internet (how did people survive without it?) I was able to find a similar island that suits my needs probably better than the first one!  (Picture it without the heinous wheels.  I don’t plan on using them.)

The dimensions are almost identical and I like the open shelving.  The best part is that it is – wait for it – $400 cheaper than the first island!  #Boom

3.  Trump.  I am not a fan of his personally but two hilarious things involving him happened this week that gave me a good chuckle.  The first was this tweet:

That’s pretty brutal.  It’s like something straight out of Mean Girls.  I would never elect a President that operated that way but I still thought it was pretty funny.

The next thing is this video:

Can I just say that Jimmy Fallon’s wig looks more real than Trump’s actual hair, lol!

4. Fitbit Flex.  I mentioned last week that I discovered the health app on my iPhone and it totally opened my eyes to how few steps I was taking each day?  Well, today I took it a step further (see what I did there?) and bought a FITBIT!  I have officially drank the Kool Aid!  Do you have tips?  What do I need to know about this thing?

5. Funny.  I am going to leave you with this today:

I just died laughing when I saw this on Insta.  I love her crazy eyes in he pic.  Hahahaha!

Okay loves!  Have a fabulous weekend!  xo

February Empties!

Monthly Empties

I have been meaning to do one of these posts for a while.  Beauty products are my jam.  I totally hoard them and I am trying to stop buying so many and work my way through the ones I already own.  Here are some of my recently finished products:

Sephora Pearl Sleeping Mask

Sephora Pearl Sleeping Mask

Sephora sells eight different varieties of these sleeping masks and I ordered one of each during my last haul.  So far this has been the only one that I’ve used.  Since it has the word “mask” in the name I assumed it would be a put on and wash off jobbie.  These are actually different though.  You apply them to clean skin before bed and leave them on.  They work while you sleep.  I was VERY impressed by the look and feel of my skin when I woke up!  It did seem brighter and smoother.  I cant wait to try out the others!  I will report back with my findings!

NIVEA Smoothing In-Shower Body Lotion

I hate to shower.  There.  I said it.  Well, not really.  I love to stand in the warm water and actually shower.  I just hate taking valuable time out of my day to do it and all the work that goes along with it like shaving my legs, lotioning myself afterwards and blowdrying my hair.  I feel like all of that stuff takes FOREVER.

(Props to you if you knew that the GIF above was from The Sandlot.  Best movie ever!)  Anyway, when I learned of a new lotion that you can apply in the shower and then rinse off (thus crossing an annoying after shower item off my list) I was very intrigued.  This lotion looked and felt EXACTLY like conditioner in my hand.  Same consistency.  I put it on my body after I was done soaping and shaving and then rinsed my conditioner and lotion off at the same time.  This Winter has been cold and usually my skin can be pretty dry and itchy.  I have not experienced that this year and it is probably due to the Nivea.  It does a good job hydrating.  The only issue I have with it is that I don’t love the smell.  It doesn’t smell BAD per say but it doesn’t smell good either.  Just weird.  I just bought the Extra Dry variety (which smells like cocoa butter).  I will let you guys know next month what I think after I’ve used it.

Elnett Hairspray Review

Elnett Satin Hairspray

I first got a sample of this stuff for free while walking around outside of Radio City Music Hall a few years ago.  (Sometimes being in NYC has it’s perks.)  After I started using it I realized that it was different from other hairsprays.  It doesn’t leave a shiny film on your hair and it doesn’t harden it.  It basically just makes your hair do exactly what you want it to do magically, lol.  I have flyaways from coloring my hair and when I use regular hair spray close to my forehead it either doesn’t work and they pop right back up or I use too much and they get shellacked into a hard, shiny mess.  Not a good look.  I never have that problem with Elnett.  I mist around my forehead and crown, brush and boom.  No more flyaways.  It is amazing!  I will warn you that this stuff is more expensive than regular hairspray.  I just want to disclose that right off the bat before you see the price in Target and think I’ve lost my mind.  I KNOW it is pricey.  However, this is not the 80’s.  You are not going to use a can a day.  This should last you a good amount of time and it is so worth it!

Have you guys used any fabulous products lately that I should pick up?

What I’m Reading – February ’16 Edition!

It just occurred to me that I have not shared a reading list with you guys in a while.  I go through periods of time where I am either doing a ton of reading or none at all.  Do you guys do that?  Lately, I have been seeing new books from some of my favorite authors so I am pretty excited about digging into them.  Here is what is on my list for this month:

Shopaholic To The Rescue

Hijinks ensue as husband Luke drives Becky, daughter Minnie, Jane, Suze and other favorite Kinsella characters across country from LA to Las Vegas in search of the missing men.

Here's Looking At You

Here’s Looking At You by Mhairi McFarlane

Description: The new novel from the bestselling author of You Had Me At Hello.  What if the last person you wanted to see was the person you needed? After the runaway success of You Had Me At Hello, Mhairi McFarlane is back with a new cast of characters in her second book, Here’s Looking At You.  In essence it’s an ugly duckling tale.  Our heroine Aureliana returns to school after fifteen years for a reunion.  School doesn’t hold happy memories for her, as being a roly poly Italian (known as the Italian Galleon), and always armed with a Tupperware full of pungent Mediterranean food, she was bullied incessantly throughout her years there.  Now in her 30’s, Aureliana wants to put the past behind her once and for all and face up to the bullies who made her life hell.  But she is much-changed from the girl she once was – all curves and because I’m worth it hair – and no one recognizes her when she arrives.  Losing her bottle, she backs out on her plan for revenge and slinks off, hoping never to be reminded of her years at school again.  But fate gets in the way, and after the reunion her path keeps crossing with James – major hunk and Aureliana’s major crush back at school.  But alas, Aureliana to this day believes that his beautiful exterior hides an ugly interior.  As they continue to cross paths a love/hate relationship ensues until eventually something shifts, and they both start to discover what the person underneath is really like…Full of Mhairi’s trademark laugh out loud humour, Here’s Looking At You is a novel about facing your demons and being happy with who you really are.

First Comes Love

First Comes Love by Emily Giffin

Description: In this dazzling new novel, Emily Giffin, the #1 New York Times bestselling author of Something Borrowed, Where We Belong, and The One & Only introduces a pair of sisters who find themselves at a crossroads.
Growing up, Josie and Meredith Garland shared a loving, if sometimes contentious relationship. Josie was impulsive, spirited, and outgoing; Meredith hardworking, thoughtful, and reserved. When tragedy strikes their family, their different responses to the event splinter their delicate bond.
Fifteen years later, Josie and Meredith are in their late thirties, following very different paths. Josie, a first grade teacher, is single—and this close to swearing off dating for good. What she wants more than the right guy, however, is to become a mother—a feeling that is heightened when her ex-boyfriend’s daughter ends up in her class. Determined to have the future she’s always wanted, Josie decides to take matters into her own hands.
On the outside, Meredith is the model daughter with the perfect life. A successful attorney, she’s married to a wonderful man, and together they’re raising a beautiful four-year-old daughter. Yet lately, Meredith feels dissatisfied and restless, secretly wondering if she chose the life that was expected of her rather than the one she truly desired.
As the anniversary of their tragedy looms and painful secrets from the past begin to surface, Josie and Meredith must not only confront the issues that divide them, but also come to terms with their own choices. In their journey toward understanding and forgiveness, both sisters discover they need each other more than they knew . . . and that in the recipe for true happiness, love always comes first.
Emotionally honest and utterly enthralling, First Comes Love is a story about family, friendship, and the courage to follow your own heart—wherever that may lead.
