Monthly Faves Link Up

January Favorites

Happy Hump Day!  Today I am linking up with Mia to share my January Favorites!  Here goes:

1.  Vaseline Advance Healing Lip Therapy.  For years I have been using a whole slew of products to combat the dry lips that I experience every year thanks to the brutal NYC cold.  I thought I had a winner in Fresh Sugar Lip Treatment but it is pretty expensive at $22 a tube. Then, when my hubby broke his ankle I was in the hospital with him for a few days and my lips were super chapped.  Of course I had no products with me for that so I went down to the gift shop.  All they had was the Vaseline so I bought it.  It is my new FAVORITE.  It is not greasy and doesn’t sit on your lips like gloss.  It absorbs immediately and actually softens and smooths.  I love it so much that on my last trip to Target I bought ten tubes.  Taylor thought I was nuts but I will never use anything else.

2.  Women’s Nike Free 5.0 V4 Running Shoes.  I have wanted these for a super long time but they were sold out.  I finally found them at Finishline and am totally in love.  Super comfy and maybe at some point I will stop being so lazy and wear them to work out.  Maybe.

3.  Moroccan Oil Shampoo and Conditioner.  I know I am behind the trend on this one.  Everyone has been raving about MO products for a while and I did try the oil a while back and I didn’t love it.  A few weeks ago I got a Keratin treatment for the first time – LIFECHANGING – and my hairdresser recommended this brand because it doesn’t have sulfates.  I’ve been using it for a few weeks and I’m pretty happy with it.  It smells great.

4.  The Woman Who Stole My Life.  I am going to do a full review on this in the near future but I love Marian Keyes and this was worth reading.

5.  Real Techniques Bold Metals 301 Flat Contour Brush.  Ahmazingggggggggg.  This video shows you how to use it and it really does work.  I am giving away three brushes from this line (including the contour brush).  You can enter to win them here.

Good morning loves!  I hope you all kept warm during the snowstorm! Thankfully, we didn’t get the massive amount of snow that was predicted!  Don’t get me wrong, we still got a bunch but I was pretty happy that I didn’t have to dig our cars out of two feet or more!

One lovely side effect of the storm was a day off from work.  After I finished shoveling, I was able to drink a glass of wine and play around with the Real Techniques Bold Metals brushes I received at the launch party a few weeks ago.  While I have been using them since the event, I got the chance yesterday to watch a few tutorials and really get a feel for them (instead of just rushing to put my makeup on at 6 am).

They are sleek and luxurious and they work great.  The tapered bristles hold the product so well and I love the weighted feel of the brush.  They make applying makeup feel very fancy!

The Bold Metals Collection uses a color-coded system that corresponds to the key steps of makeup application: gold = base; platinum = eye; rose gold = finish.  I have chosen my favorite brush from each color category and the sweet team over at Real Techniques is going to give away a set to one lucky ALG reader!  The winner will receive:

Real Techniques #BoldMetals Collection NYC Launch Party

Last week I attended the Real Techniques launch party for their new Bold Metals luxury brush collection at the beautiful Hudson Hotel.

Real Techniques is a makeup and brush line created by the talented sisters, Sam and Nic Chapman.  You may know them from their popular Youtube channel, Pixiwoo.  They post fabulous tutorials and I find them to be both charming and knowledgeable.  They have had a brush line out for a while but their new Bold Metal range is a total game-changer.  It feels so luxurious.  Each brush is weighted for optimal control and comfort.   They feel substantial and expensive.  I also really love the metallic bases and the supersoft bristles.

I have to confess that I have always used my fingers to apply makeup but since attending this launch I have become addicted to these Bold Metal brushes and I think they make a big difference.  They also look gorgeous on your bathroom counter.

Real Techniques Bold Metals Makeup Brush Launch Party NYCIn addition to a fun photo booth and a makeup station (where there were artists on hand to do touch-ups using the Bold Metals brushes), Sam and Nic also appeared from London via Skype to introduce the line.
