Resolutions Revisited

New Year Bannon

I just realized that it is now June and the year is about halfway over.  Crazy, right?  That made me think of the resolutions I made back in December and wonder what the status was on them.  I know for a fact that I have checked some things off my list but I am also aware that I have completely ignored others.  (The thought of painting my cabinets makes me groan internally and wonder why the eff I included that.)

Here were my resolutions for 2014 and the status on them:

– I just got a new camera for Christmas.  It is a Canon SL1 and my first DLSR.  I love it but I have no idea how to use it beyond automatic mode.  I endevour to learn how it works and how to take awesome pictures with it.  I was thinking of signing up for some weekend courses at a nearby college or photography school.

I am actually signed up for a course that is meeting this Saturday, so I should be able to check this off my list then.  It is a 3 hour DSLR course called, “Take Your Camera Off Program Mode!”  It gets really great online reviews and only costs $99.  Here is a link in case anyone else is interested.  The teacher, Okello Dunkley, teaches these classes all over the Country.

– There are a few things that I want to learn how to cook flawlessly.  I want to make the best shrimp scampi, lasagna and pancakes.  Right now I am suckish (at best) at making those things.  I want to have a recipe that I have perfected and consider my go-to for all three.

Okay, I have tried a few different recipes for Shrimp Scampi and they all sucked.  That is still something I need to perfect.  I have made no effort to cook lasagna.  I might save that for the warmer months.  I tend to make heavier foods along with the colder weather.  As for the pancakes….BOOM!  Crossed that sucker off.  Not only have I found my perfect recipe it is also HEALTHY.  I make them probably every weekend and my family and I love them.  Here is the recipe and I promise you it is a good one.

– I will learn how to apply eye shadow this year.  I was thinking of taking a lesson from a professional makeup artist.  I have tried youtube tutorials and I still wind up looking like a slutty clown.  It is not a good look.

I have not done anything in this area besides ordering the Naked 2 palette and using it a few times immediately after I got it.  I still plan on looking into lessons at some point.

– I have a few home improvements in the hopper for 2014.  My husband and I are going to build a banquette for our kitchen (which I am really excited about).  I am going to make a tufted cushion for the back and I cant wait to get that project underway!  We also plan paint/stain our cabinets and put on new hardware, install a new sink, new countertop and backsplash and perhaps buy new appliances.  I also have some diy projects underway that I will be sharing soon.

Soon after writing this and being so excited about building a banquette my husband and I realized that it would be in the way of the HVAC vent in the kitchen.  We could have built one around it but the main point of wanting the banquette was for additional storage so once we realized that was not an option we scrapped that idea.  Instead, I bought a beautiful table, chairs, a chandelier, made some silverware artwork and a DIY valance that I love.  I guess that counts since I did handle that area (even if it was not in the way I initially intended).  I still need to address the cabinets.  I know they will look fabulous with new paint and hardware but it is hard to find the time to do that now that the Summer is here.

– This year there is a new category of goals for me – this blog!  I really want to work on building a bigger social media following!  I would love to have 1000 Twitter and Facebook followers (quite a lofty goal considering I have 14 Twitter followers right now).  I am absolutely terrible at Twitter but I plan to figure it out in 2014.  Also, I would like to start doing one giveaway a month.  I am stumped right now as to what the prize for my first one should be but I hope to be struck by inspiration soon.  If you have any ideas please send them my way!

I have reached 1k Facebook friends!  I was super excited about that when it happened!  As far as the Twitter friends?  I still only have about 300.  Unless 700 of you guys decide to follow me I may fail miserably at that goal.  I am rocking in the giveaway area.  I was off to a slow start.  It felt as though no one wanted to work with me.  Now that I have done a few, stores are reaching out to me and I am able to be a bit choosy and pick things that I really love to give away.  I believe I have done 7 this year so far and I already have another two lined up.  Is there anything you guys would love to win?  It seems like jewelry is the most successful.

Okay y’all that is my update.  Obviously I still have some things to work on.  Do you guys check in on your resolutions periodically?  I would love to know what you have accomplished and what you still need to check off your list.

I absolutely love the beginning of a new year!  It reminds me to take a moment to reflect on the last year and think of the things that I have accomplished, blessings in my life and goals I want to achieve in the future.  I managed to cross a lot off my bucket list in 2013.  One big thing was starting A Little Glitter

I have a list of things that I plan to effect in 2014.  I dont regard new year’s resolutions as wishes that will happen effortlessly.  I dont do effortless.  I enjoy a good struggle.  That way when I succeed it is that much sweeter.  I dont put random things on my list like lose 30 pounds – unless I really plan to work my butt off and lose 30 pounds.  (I dont.  I enjoy chocolate too much right now.  Maybe in 2015.)  My resolutions are goals that I plan to realize in 2014 through research, trial and error, networking, asking questions and hard work.  Without further ado, here is my list of resolutions for 2014…
