Happy Halloween!

Happy Halloween and Happy Friday lovies!  Today is a going to be a good one!  I took the day off from work to watch Taylor’s Halloween parade at school and go trick or treating!  I love Halloween so so much!  Getting dressed up and eating candy is RIGHT up this girl’s alley!  Here are my weekly faves:

ONE:  I got to attend a fabulous  InStyle Magazine event earlier in the week with the beautiful B from the Sequin Notebook.  We had a blast together scoping out the hot products for this holiday season!  I am going to do a full post next week but I will give you guys a little sneak peak now.  One of the things I was super excited about was a Tory Burch Fitbit necklace!  I need this in my life!

Rent the Runway Review

I have always been intrigued by Rent the Runway.  I think the concept is genius.  I cant tell you how many dresses I have in my closet that I bought for an event and have only worn once. Renting is a great plan.  I have visited the website, scoped out dresses and found promotional codes but in the end I just couldn’t pull the trigger.  I pictured myself the day of an event, too short/tight/big/long dress in hand, sobbing and I just couldn’t take the risk.  I am tall (5’10” to be exact) and I have big boobs.  I need to try things on.

Recently I was invited to an event for InStyle Magazine.  I was confused on how to dress though.  It was being held at a nice space in NYC but it was on a Tuesday night from 6-9.  Then I looked more into it and I saw that there were bloggers and vendors flying in from California and Texas to attend.  Plus, it is InStyle Magazine so I needed to be fashionable.  I couldn’t get a handle on how fancy/trendy I should be though.

I learned soon after that that Rent the Runway now has two stores in New York City and saw this as the perfect opportunity to try it out.  I made my appointment for the day before my event at the location in the Flatiron District.

In order to visit the store you must pay $25 at the time you make your appointment.  This is non-refundable.  It is to secure your reservation and also for a stylist that will work with you one on one for 45 minutes.  I was okay with that fee as I was still so unsure about how fancy I wanted to go and I figured a stylist could help me.

When I arrived at RTR my stylist greeted me and brought me to a changing room in the back.  I explained to her my concerns, gave her information on what I was looking for and described the event I was attending.  She left to go pull dresses for me and I went into the front showroom to pick dresses myself.  There is not a huge amount of merchandise in the store.  I consider that one of the biggest drawbacks.  Also, there are not a lot of sizes.  I would find a lot of dresses and show them to my stylist and she would advise that that was the only one they had in stock and since it was too big or small I had to put it back.  I found that disappointing.

I didn’t love any of the items that my stylist pulled.  Not even one.  I don’t think we had great chemistry or similar taste.  I wound up finding three dresses myself that fit and I chose one of them for the event.  I was also not blown away by the whole experience.  It might have just been an off day or if I had a different stylist I might have liked it better.  I’m not sure.  I am not faulting her and actually I found her to be very nice but I did leave the store feeling disappointed.

I should note that my husband and daughter adore the dress that I did pick and cant understand my hesitation.

Here were my three top choices.  I am not going to tell you what I chose.  You will have to wait and see but I am interested in hearing your thoughts.  Which one is your favorite and also have any of you ever rented a dress from RTR?  What was your experience like?

You know you had a busy weekend when you are relieved to get to work on Monday and just sit down.  Life has been GO GO GO for the past few days.  (All good things but hectic nonetheless.) On Saturday morning I woke up and headed into the East Village to meet up some NYC blogging gals for brunch.  The lovely B & M from the Sequin Notebook organized it and their attention to detail astounds me.  When we arrived they presented us with adorable mini-champagne bottles with personalized, embossed tags and NYC taxi cookies.  It was such a thoughtful gift.  I was really blown away!  The restaurant they chose had unlimited Prosecco and some delish pizza.  I was a happy girl!  It was so nice to meet up and share ideas and ask questions of people that share the same hobby.  My real life girlfriends don’t blog.  They don’t even always read my blog and that’s okay.  I’m sure they get enough of me IRL.

Here is a pic of my outfit – I don’t know what is up with my expression.  I’m not mad.  I think I just have a case of resting bitch face.Outfit

I was loving my hair so I had to stop and take a selfie!

I got to enjoy this beautiful view on my way into NYC.

After spending a few hours chatting, drinking and laughing we went over to the Park Central Hotel for the Simply Stylist Conference.  On the way we noticed a ton of Christmas decorations so I ran across to find out what was going on (apparently they were shooting a Jeep commercial) and had Santa take a selfie with me.  Rest assured – he advised that I’ve been a very good girl this year.

Once at the Simply Stylist Convention we mingled with some great vendors and other bloggers and got a giant swag bag.  I cant believe all of the awesome stuff that was packed in there!

I also got a chance to talk to Rebecca of Harper Hallam jewelry.  I was blown away by her gorgeous pieces!  Those hot pink earrings need to be on my ears yesterday!

So much fun was had on Saturday and another blogger brunch is needed in the very near future!

Sunday morning started off bright and early with a makeup game for Taylor’s soccer team.  It was at a field right near the beach and the wind was whipping.  I froze my butt off.

After the game ended we went home and freshened up.  T did some homework and we ate lunch.  Then, we went over to Coney Island!  We take Taylor there every year and she was finally tall enough to ride the Cyclone!  We weren’t able to make it to the park sooner and yesterday was it’s final day of the season.

All in all it was a fabulous weekend!  I am linking up with Biana for weekending!  If you get a chance, swing by BLovedBoston and check her out.

Happy Friday!

FridayHappy Friday chicas!  Woo hoo!  I am so looking forward to this weekend.  I have two fun things planned for Saturday!  One is a brunch and the other is a fashion event and both are with the fabulous ladies from THE SEQUIN NOTEBOOK!   So exciting to have some NYC blogger friends to hang out with!  I will report back with pictures and details of all the fun on Monday!  Here are my five favorites for the week:

1.  Autumn Affair.  Speaking of the Sequin Notebook, I was able to meet up with B & M earlier in the week for a fun event called the Autumn Affair.  It was hosted by Your Beauty Fix Mag.  We got manis with beautiful nail charms, drank wine and learned all about nail polish production (which is actually quite interesting).

2.  eff.Y.bee.  I was able to check out some of these gorgeous bracelets and I bought a sparkly pink one for Taylor.  I am also OBSESSED with this Turquoise Harper Statement Necklace!

3. Blake Lively.  I have always been a big Blake fan but now that she has been able to pull off being the hottest pregnant woman alive I am even more impressed with her.

1D274907043479-141021-blake-01.blocks_desktop_large4.  Baked By Melissa.  My friend’s son came in to our job to visit so I picked some Baked By Melissa cupcakes.  For him.  Definitely for him and not for me at all.  (Wink wink.)  Have you guys had these?  They are the size of a quarter and only 40 calories each.  This way you dont have to have just one flavor.  You can eat a few different cupcakes and still only ingest a minimal amount of calories.  It is pure genius!

2014-10-21 13.08.155.  Maroon 5 – Animals.  I have been playing this on repeat.  Love.

I hope you all have a fabulous weekend!  I am participating in a few link-ups this week.  If you get a chance you should swing by and show some love to LaurenAmanda and Natasha. Thanks for hosting ladies!
