Yearly Archives: 2014

Good morning lovies!  Today I am linking up with Biana for Weekending.  Here is a look back at some of the highlights from my weekend:

Friday night we finally got around to decorating our Christmas tree!  I lugged that sucker in the house the weekend before but we have been so crazed that we didn’t get a chance to decorate it.  I don’t know if I have ever mentioned this before but we collect ornaments.  Every time we travel we buy one.  Also, every year we each get one that reflects our personality or a milestone we achieved in the past year and I buy one for the family.  It is fun to look back at the fun times we have shared and places we have been as we decorate every Christmas.  This year I kept the very breakable or sentimentally valuable ones off the tree since I was afraid that Jeter would mess with them.  So far he has knocked a few down but not broken any so we have been lucky.  I was also happy to add a few beautiful new ones that Lisa sent as part of the 2014 ornament swap hosted by Mia!  Animal print plus glitter?  You know me so well, Lisa!  Love them!

On Saturday we went out to Long Island for a cookie decorating/birthday party for my bestie!  It was a lot of fun and it was nice to get the hubby and his bum ankle out of the casa.  He has been home-bound since his accident except for visits to the doctor.

How cute is this cookie that my friend’s daughter made for Billy?

Sunday was spent cleaning, doing laundry, cooking and food shopping.  I did manage to sneak in a little time for a mani/pedi though.  (OPI’s Big Apple Red is my JAM!)

To finish things off Taylor helped me make some delicious pork chops for dinner and then we rounded out the weekend with a viewing of my favorite: National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation!  Yay!

What did you guys do this weekend?

Happy Friday!

Fri Yay

Happy Friday Loves!  The hubby’s surgery on Monday went well and we are moving along towards recovery.  I am relieved and it also feels really good to be back to blogging and knowing that things are going to be okay.  I cant wait for the weekend.  I have a ton to do but I am definitely scheduling in a little time to relax.  I feel mentally exhausted.  Are you guys up to anything good?

Here are my five favorites from the past week:

One.  I dont know if you saw but Wednesday was my blogiversary!  I am hosting a huge giveaway and I hope you will enter!

Two.  I officially have the sweetest hubby ever.  To celebrate my blogiversary he sent me a huge, gorgeous bouquet of flowers and Baked By Melissa cupcakes!  It was the nicest thing ever.  He is a good egg.

Three.  I got all of our Christmas cards done and mailed and I love them!

Four.  My hubby is laid up and unable to cook so I have been trying to be creative and use my slow cooker when possible.  I made this recipe last night using chicken instead of pork and it was delicious.  Plus there is enough that we can have it again tonight!  Yay!  Leftovers!

Five.  Jeter!  How cute is this little guy?  He is so snuggly and happy.

I’m linking up with LaurenAmanda and Natasha this week.  If you get a chance, stop by and show them some love.  xo

The Bannon Family Christmas Card – 2014 Edition

2014 Christmas Card

Christmas cards sneak up on me EVERY YEAR.  Does that happen to anyone else?  I keep thinking I have plenty of time and then I realize I should have taken the pictures already!  So I call my poor photographer in a panic and he miraculously finds a time slot and squeezes us in. He’s even managed to find some places for inexpensive photo studio rental in NYC

I think I mentioned to you guys in the past all that goes into my Christmas cards but I will explain again.  You see, my family consists of three picky Bannons.  Myself, my fashionable husband and our diva daughter.  No one just accepts that I will pick decent outfits.  So, I create a mood board on Polyvore and show it to them.  This way they can see it all side by side, realize it looks awesome, sign off on it and I can order everything.  #momlife

Here is this year’s mood board:

Christmas 2014

After our wardrobes have been taken care of I can move on to location and props.  Last year I used a banner that I bought on Etsy.  You can see it here:

In 2012 I bought giant letters and my hubby spray painted them red.

Here is the finished card:

This year I found a gorgeous location and I decided to let the backdrop speak for itself.  We shot at the Alice Austen House in Staten Island, New York and the views of the Verrazano Bridge were just exquisite.

Even though our amazing photographer, Frank Pensabene, captured at least a dozen beautiful, card-worthy pictures, I decided to keep it simple and only showcase one photo.  This was the end result and I love it so much:

What is your routine when doing family portraits?  Do you have any tips or tricks?

A Little Glitter Turns One!

A Little Glitter Blogiversary Giveawaycake c/o fake cupcake creations **  cake topper c/o glambanners

Today marks A Little Glitter‘s ONE YEAR BLOGIVERSARY!  I cant believe it has been a whole year!  I guess time flies when you’re having fun!

I can think of no better way to mark this momentous occasion than a fabulous photo shoot and a GIGANTIC giveaway!

A Little Glitter Blogiversary GiveawayA Little Glitter Blogiversary GiveawayA Little Glitter Blogiversary GiveawayOne of the things I love most about running ALG is the opportunity to meet incredible people.  I am shocked by the lovely, intelligent and genuine individuals that I get to interact with every day.  When I started this blog I was worried that I would be mean-girled by other bloggers.  I was afraid that they would gang up on me because I was a newbie or be mean to me because I was their competition.  I have seen chat rooms and forums filled with awful internet trolls and I assumed bloggers would be the same.  I am pleased to say that I was totally wrong.  Everyone I’ve gotten to know  has been amazing and I am happy to report that some of you guys have even become my friends in real life.

Speaking of “in real life”…I need to give major props to two people.  Number one is my hubby.  He is a huge support system for me and always there to help with my sometimes harebrained (but always fun) ideas.  Without him I wouldn’t even have this blog and he deserves a lot of credit for listening to me talk about it endlessly without rolling his eyes.

A Little Glitter Blogiversary Giveaway

Another person that I need to thank is Frank Pensabene.  He is the only photographer I use.   I can call him and tell him that I want to do a blogiversary photo shoot and he will let me bounce ideas off of him and not think I am crazy (or at least not verbalize that).  Even as I get more out of control by deciding to wear a full length sequin gown, order a white sheepskin rug, get a fake cake and buy tons of balloons he doesnt bat an eye.  I dont know many straight men that would embrace that type of behavior.  Frank shot the pictures and our Christmas pictures (which came out amazing and will be on the blog next week).  Here is a ink to his website.  If you are in the NYC Metro Area and need a photographer I highly recommend him.

Another favorite thing that I get to do as a blogger is host giveaways!  In order to thank you for making this such a great year, I have put together a MASSIVE and FABULOUS contest!  Sharing things with my readers makes me so happy!  Like with most things, I couldn’t stop myself from going big on this.

This giveaway is a great one!  It consists of ten prizes for ten winners!  Here is more information on the items up for grabs and the sponsors that have made this all possible:

The Live It Up Collection by Cirque Colors!A Little Glitter Blogiversary Giveaway

I am a huge nail polish person!  My nails have not been naked for years.  When I met the creator of Cirque Colors, Annie Pham, I couldn’t help but pepper her with questions about how she got started.  She answered them all so gracefully and has such a wonderful energy.  The name Cirque, meaning ring or circle, represents the color wheel and the endless color possibilities in the continuum.   As soon as I saw this collection I knew that it was perfect for this giveaway!  Festive holiday glitters!  Check!  Cirque Colors is also including their white and black polishes so that you can put a layer of one of them on first to make the glitters in this Live It Up Collection really pop.

Thank You!

Last week was a rough one.  My hubby broke his ankle pretty badly.  He spent some time in the hospital and then came home where he was in pain and pretty much immobile.  I was depressed and scared and sad.

Your kind words made me feel so much better and I really appreciate the outpouring of support I received from my blog friends and readers.  I never realized how many wonderful people I would meet through ALG and I want to say thank you and let you know that I appreciate it.

Today is Billy’s surgery.  Hopefully all goes well and then he will be on the road to recovery.  Please keep us in your prayers today.
