Happy Summer Friday!

Happy Summer Friday!  I am off today celebrating my baby girl’s last day of fourth grade!  I know I sound like a cliche but seriously – WHERE HAS THE TIME GONE?  I am pre-posting because I couldn’t miss a Friday!  They are my fave!  I love linking up with AprilAmanda and Della to share my Friday Favorites.

Let’s get this party started:

1.  New Sneakers.  I have been going to the gym nearly every day for the last few weeks.  I am still trying to undo the damage from my gluttonous eating this Winter.  My workout clothes felt a bit stale and I needed something fun to switch it up and motivate me to continue my hard work so I treated myself to these beauties!  I got them on sale, too!  Yay for a bargain!

 2. Lauren Gleisberg.   Do you guys follow her on Insta?  She provides so much useful information and great motivational pictures.  She also just posted this recipe and I am going to make it this weekend.

3. Z Gallerie.  I am OBSESSED with this giant mirror.  I need it in my life!

4.  4th of July Tank.  How cute is this for the 4th?  For real!  I am thisclose to buying it.

5.  Funnies.  Here are some gems that I found on Instagram this week:

Monster Jam Path of Destruction Review

Monster Jam Ice Cream Man

A few weeks ago I got the opportunity to attend Monster Jam with my family at Metlife Stadium as part of their Path of Destruction tour.  This was our first time attending a monster truck show but it will NOT be our last.  While we love to watch on television, we now know that there is a HUGE difference in actually being there and seeing these giant trucks perform stunts live.  There is an incredible energy in the crowd and the pyrotechnics and cheering create a really electric environment.

Our day started around 2 pm since we were invited to go on a fun tour of the track with the folks from Feld Entertainment.

My daughter and nephew got to meet some of the crew and a few of the drivers backstage (including Roy Pridgeon and  J.R. McNeal) and hold one of the trophies!

After our track walk we went over to the Pit Party.  If you are going to attend a Monster Jam event I highly recommend getting a ticket for the Pit Party as well.  The trucks are on display and you can meet the drivers, get signatures and have your pictures taken with them.  There is also food and tents set up with activities for the kids (including one area where they can build their own truck).

I loved that there were so many women drivers and trucks that appealed to girls.  It was really heartwarming to see all the little girls in the audience in their Madusa shirts!

The Pit Party ended and we made our way to our seats for the main event.  We had a great view of the track and the night started with fireworks as the trucks made their way into the stadium.

My favorite part of the night was having the opportunity to watch Max-D’s driver, Tom Meents,  attempt to do a front flip and become a new Guinness Book of World Record Holder!  Unfortunately, he did not get the record because all four of his tires did not land on the ground at once.  He landed on two and then did another flip.  Either way it was amazing to watch!

We had a fabulous time at Monster Jam’s Path of Destruction!  I highly recommend it.  To see when they will be in your area you can check them out here:

Literary Ladies Summer Reading Challenge – Preliminary List

I know.  I know.  I posted a reading list yesterday but there is SO MUCH happening right now that involves reading.  In addition to all my favorite authors having books out and receiving so many great recommendations, there is also the Literary Ladies Summer Reading Challenge that I have agreed to participate in.  It is run by three of my favorite bloggers and I am pretty stoked about it.  Unfortunately, I am not off to the best start (as there was a preliminary list due on Sunday and I totally spaced on creating it).  Sorry Kristen, Kari and Kay!  Anyway, without further ado, here is my list:

* A YA book (mandatory!) ~ Finding Audrey by Sophie Kinsella

* Non US Author  (mandatory!) ~ Woman With a Secret by Sophie Hannah

* A book that was recommended by a blogger  (mandatory!) ~ Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austin (recommended by Kristen)

* A book that has been on your TBR list for a year or more ~ The Carrier by Sophie Hannah

* A book with a kickass female character ~ Divergent by Veronica Roth

* A book that is or will be a movie (or TV show) ~ The Martian by Andy Weir

* A book written by a comedian or celebrity ~ The Woman I Wanted to Be by Diane Von Furstenberg

So, that is my list.  It seems like I need to get my butt in gear because there are a lot of books up there.  I am excited to read each one though!

A Little Glitter’s 2015 Summer Reading List

A Little Glitter 2015 Summer Reading List

Good morning lovelies!  Happy Monday!  I hope you all had a fabulous Father’s Day!  My weekend was kind of busy but I did manage to sneak in some time to relax and while perusing Amazon for a new book I realized that 1.  THERE ARE SO MANY GOOD ONES OUT RIGHT NOW and 2.  I should make a Summer reading list for you guys/myself!  So, here goes…

Primates of Park Avenue

Primates of Park Avenue by Wednesday Martin

Description:  After marrying a man from the Upper East Side and moving to the neighborhood, Wednesday Martin struggled to fit in. Drawing on her background in anthropology and primatology, she tried looking at her new world through that lens, and suddenly things fell into place. She understood the other mothers’ snobbiness at school drop-off when she compared them to olive baboons. Her obsessional quest for a Hermes Birkin handbag made sense when she realized other females wielded them to establish dominance in their troop. And so she analyzed tribal migration patterns, display rituals, physical adornment, mutilation, mating practices, extra-pair copulation, and more. Her conclusions are smart, thought-provoking, and hilariously unexpected.

Killing MonicaKilling Monica by Candace Bushnell

Description:  In KILLING MONICA Bushnell spoofs and skewers her way through pop culture, celebrity worship, fame, and even the meaning of life itself, when a famous writer must resort to faking her own death in order to get her life back from her most infamous creation–Monica. With her trademark wit and style, KILLING MONICA is Bushnell’s sharpest, funniest book to date.

The Knockoff

The Knockoff by Lucy Sykes and Jo Piazza

Description:  An outrageously stylish, wickedly funny novel of fashion in the digital age, The Knockoff is the story of Imogen Tate, editor in chief of Glossy magazine, who finds her twentysomething former assistant Eve Morton plotting to knock Imogen off her pedestal, take over her job, and reduce the magazine, famous for its lavish 768-page September issue, into an app.

Turn Back Time

If I Could Turn Back Time by Beth Harbison

Description:  Told with Beth Harbison’s wit and warmth, If I Could Turn Back Time is the fantasy of every woman who has ever thought, “If I could go back in time, knowing what I know now, I’d do things so differently…”

Summer Secrets

Summer Secrets by Jane Green

Description:  Jane Green delivers her second blockbuster novel of 2015, a story of one woman struggling to right the wrongs of her past, with even more complications in the present.

The Best of Enemies by Jen Lancaster

Description: Bridesmaids meets The In-Laws in a novel told from the alternating perspectives of two women who define the term frenemies—from New York Times bestselling author Jen Lancaster.

The Girl on the Train by Paula Hawkins

Description: Rachel takes the same commuter train every morning. Every day she rattles down the track, flashes past a stretch of cozy suburban homes, and stops at the signal that allows her to daily watch the same couple breakfasting on their deck. She’s even started to feel like she knows them. “Jess and Jason,” she calls them. Their life—as she sees it—is perfect. Not unlike the life she recently lost.  And then she sees something shocking. It’s only a minute until the train moves on, but it’s enough. Now everything’s changed. Unable to keep it to herself, Rachel offers what she knows to the police, and becomes inextricably entwined in what happens next, as well as in the lives of everyone involved. Has she done more harm than good?

Who Do You Love by Jennifer Weiner

Description:  From the “hilarious, heartbreaking, and insightful” (The Miami Herald) bestselling author Jennifer Weiner comes a sweeping, modern day fairy tale about first romance and lasting love.

Woman With a Secret by Sophie Hannah

Description:  Traffic on Elmhirst Road has come to a halt. The police are stopping cars, searching for something. Nicki Clements waits patiently, until she glimpses a face she hoped she’d never see again. It’s him—and he’s the cop checking each car. Desperate to avoid him, she makes a panicky U-turn and escapes.  But Nicki’s peculiar behavior did not go unnoticed, and now the police have summoned her for questioning. A resident of Elmhirst Road has been murdered—a controversial newspaper columnist named Damon Blundy. The detectives begin peppering her with questions. Why was she seen fleeing the scene? What is her connection to the victim? Why was the knife that killed him used in such a peculiar way? Why were the words “HE IS NO LESS DEAD” painted on the wall of Blundy’s study? and what do they signify?   One simple answer could clear her. But she can’t explain why she fled Elmhirst Road that day without revealing the secret that could ruin her.

Also on my list for this Summer: the Martian by Andy Weir and Yes Please by Amy Poehler.  I plan to listen to them as an audiobook (per the suggestions of Kristen and Nadine).  This is something new for me and I have been meaning to download them for a while now.

PS – Speaking of reading – Kristen, Kay and Kari are hosting a fabulous new book club called the Literary Ladies!  The first book is Saint Anything by Sarah Dessen and the link up/discussion will be held on August 4th if you want to join in on the fun!
