Pink and Fabulous – Guest Post

Hi ladies! I’m Lindsay and I blog about fashion, food, fitness and family over at Pink and Fabulous.  Today I wanted to do a bag dump – one of my favorites!- with my currently most-used bag:  my beach bag.  I call it a beach bag, but let’s be serious, it’s a pool bag, because that is where I am hauling my two littles ones most days this Summer.  

I try to keep my bag light because I have a second bag that just houses toys, goggles and flotation devices, and you know, shoulders.  Any other moms out there ever feel like a pack horse some days?  In all honesty, I have total overly organizational tendencies and clean it out way too frequently to keep it light and tight.  It’s a never-ending cycle!

 

 
Here is what is my list of essentials:

fabulous beach towel

I alternate between a few, most often this TJ Maxx find or a couple of J.Crew towels I have.  If you’re lounging on it, I say, make it cute!

reusable water bottle

I always have one in my bag.  I don’t need to be plowing through plastic bottles (environment!) and I am constantly refilling throughout the day to keep my water intake up.  Let’s be serious, I may be doing some serious sweating in the sun, and I need to replenish! I love my BKR!

bag for swimsuits

Without fail, one of my kids will want to change before we leave, so I have started carrying this Itzy Ritzy bag meant for wet clothes with me.  You can toss it in the washing machine to wash it with your towels.  So easy!

magazines

As much I would love to bring my Kindle, wet fingers go through my bag, so I stick to magazines.  It is almost always Coastal Living and US Weekly.  Such a power combo!

sunscreen

I’m all about all of the sunscreen.  All day.  Over and over.  I plow through it, but I also like to invest in the most natural brands I can.  I use a face sunscreen and a separate one for myself and the kids’ bodies.  I am loving this Alba Botanica one right now.

A pair of great sunglasses is the best accessory for your bathing suit and a day at the pool! I am loving my cheapies from Amazon that are durable and protective!

Green Fashionista – Guest Post

Today my gal, Kate, from Green Fashionista, is dropping by.  I asked her to post a recipe for you guys because she makes my mouth water on a constant basis!  

Good Morning A Little Glitter readers, my name is Kate and you can find me over at Green Fashionista where I blog about fashion and beauty reviews, recipes, weekend shenanigans, and my all time favorite hobby – traveling.

Pamela mentioned how much she enjoys my recipe posts, so I thought I’d round up some of my favorites for everyone.  And don’t forget to drop by for Tuesday’s Recipe Swap hosted by Emily and I every other Tuesday. Our next link up will be live on Tuesday, July 28th.

Homemade Baked Funfetti Donuts

I shared this recipe in the most recent recipe swap on July 14th, and everyone loved how it was the perfect combination of funfetti cake and baked donuts. I also shared where I finally found my own donut pan to bake this deliciousness in.

Ingredients
 
2 cups + 4 tbsp. of flour
1/2 cup of firmly packed brown sugar
1/2 cup of sugar
1 tsp. of salt
2 tsp. of baking powder
1 cup of milk (I used organic skim milk)
5 tbsp. of unsalted butter (room temperature)
2 large eggs
1/2 cup of rainbow sprinkles
1 can of vanilla frosting
Donut pan for baking

 

Directions
 
Preheat oven to 350 degrees
Grease donut pan with cooking spray
In a large bowl, combine all of the dry ingredients
In another bowl, combine the milk, butter, and eggs
Gently fold together the dry ingredients into the milk, butter, and egg mixture and be careful not to over mix.
Add sprinkles to the mixture, and then spoon in the mixture to the donut pan
Bake for 10-11 minutes at 350 degrees
Once the donuts have cooled, add frosting and top with more sprinkles
This recipe will yield about 12-15 donuts
 

Ingredients

1 oz. of vodka
1 oz. of coconut rum
1/2 oz. of blue curacao
1/2 cup of lemonade
Top off with club soda

Directions

Combine all ingredients in a shaker over ice, and mix well before pouring over ice and serving. Garnish with an orange slice.


Homemade Skinny Margaritas

Ingredients

5-6 oz. tequila of choice (I used Patron)
2 oranges
1 grapefruit
2 limes
Splash of club soda
Salt to taste



Directions

Pour tequila into a pitcher over ice
Rinse and cut fruit in half and squeeze juices into pitcher
Add club soda to taste
Stir and enjoy



Baked Chicken Tacos

Ingredients

Grilled chicken, diced
2 cups of salsa
4-6 tortillas or taco shells (I used tortillas)
1/2 packet of reduced sodium taco seasoning
1 jalapeno
1 cup of reduced fat shredded pepper jack cheese
1 tbsp. of extra virgin olive oil
Toppings: fat free sour cream, tomato, and avocado

Directions

Preheat oven to 425 degrees
Pour olive oil into a sauce pan or large skillet and heat over medium heat
Combine chicken, salsa, taco seasoning, and jalapeno and let simmer for a few minutes
While mixture is cooking, shred cheese and dice up the tomato and avocado, set aside
Then add mixture to tortillas, top with cheese, and bake for about 10 minutes at 425 degrees
Add extra toppings before serving. I chose to serve with fat free sour cream, diced tomato, and avocado.

Cheese Fondue

Ingredients

1 cup of white wine
1 tbsp. of unsalted butter
1 tbsp. of flour
Garlic cloves
7 oz. of Gruyere cheese, shredded
7 oz. of sharp cheddar cheese, shredded
7 oz. of swiss cheese, shredded



Directions

Chop up veggies and prepare your other various dippers, set aside.
Rub the inside of the fondue pot with garlic, set aside.
Melt butter in a medium-large sauce pan, once melted whisk in flour.
In a small sauce pan heat wine to boiling. Once it bubbles, remove from heat and pour into butter and flour mixture.
Add shredded cheese to mixture slowly while continuing to stir
Once cheese is melted, transfer to your fondue pot and serve.



Pimento Cheese Dip

Ingredients

8 oz. block of reduced fat cream cheese
8 oz. of shredded reduced fat cheddar cheese
1/2 cup of light mayo
4 oz. jar of diced pimentos
1 jalapeno, chopped
Garlic powder and pepper to taste

Directions

Combine all ingredients in a mixer and serve with crackers and/or veggies. Refrigerate any leftovers.

Jalapeno Turkey Burgers

Ingredients
 
1 lb. extra lean ground turkey
1 jalapeno, seeded and diced
2 cloves of garlic, diced
1/4 cup of cilantro
1/3 cup of reduced fat shredded cheddar cheese
Garlic salt and black pepper to taste
Guacamole
Reduced fat sour cream
Burger buns
 
Directions

Combine all ingredients in a large bowl, making sure everything is evenly distributed. Don’t be afraid to get your hands in there and get them dirty!

Form into patties, and chill in the fridge for about an hour so they don’t fall apart on the grill.

Grill until fully cooked all the way through, serve on lightly toasted burger buns and top with guacamole and sour cream.

Hey Gals! We’re so excited to be back here guest posting at A Little Glitter and sharing some of our Friday Favorites! We are B and M, BFFs and co-bloggers at The Sequin Notebook. Unfortunately, we no longer live in the same city so we really love when we’re able to plan those all-too-rare days to spend together in person. Today we’re counting down five of our favorite things to do when we’re together…which just so happen to also be the same kind of things we blog about! 

 
 
 
Cocktails 
 
 

A good cocktail over lots of catching up is always a must when we get together. Since we don’t get to hang out in person as often as we’d like, more times than not we end up staying in so we are able to cover as much ground as possible. This means we need to channel our inner mixologist selves and craft our own delicious cocktails at home. While M is typically the mix master, we both take part in dreaming up the cocktails. We try not to play favorites, but we do have a couple that we can’t get enough of including our #1 go-to, The Apple Cider Martini, along with some seasonal favorites. Since we’re now in the heat of summer, we’ll usually mix up a Watermelon Martini, or a big batch of Strawberry Mojitos so we’re set for the night!

 
 
Party Planning
 
 

We all know that parties take a lot of time, effort, and attention to detail, so there’s no better planning partner than a best friend! The two of us are obsessed with hosting theme parties and are pretty much always in the planning stages of at least one event, so we love to work on them together during our friend dates. Next up for M is her son’s second birthday party and after his Monster Mash party last year, there is definitely a lot to live up to. Meanwhile, B is getting ready for the second annual Pop Star Palooza and has a costume all ready to go…we can’t wait to share all of the fabulous details from these upcoming events!

 
 
Photo Shoots
One of our very first photo shoots together!

Back in high school, we learned a very important lesson about the importance of always taking pictures after missing out on an amazing experience that will only live on in our minds, and sadly not in our photo albums.  We’ll spare the details, but we definitely learned our lesson that day, and have been pretty much taking pictures ever since! Fun Fact – when we’d come home from our college breaks, we’d stage ridiculous photo shoots in B’s basement (evidence above!).  While they’re slightly cringe-worthy to look back on, we love that these fun moment were documented (thanks B’s mom!)  Nowadays, our photo shoots are *slightly* less jokey, and we were even able to work with an amazing photographer this past holiday season for our holiday card.

 
Reality TV

 

What’s the only thing better than binge watching your favorite reality TV shows? Sitting in sweats on the couch with wine, snacks, and your BFF while you both watch and comment on the shows! We are partial to the Real Housewives (especially New York, Beverly Hills, OC, and Atlanta…so basically, all of them), but we’ll pretty much watch whatever Andy Cohen puts in our path.

 
Crafting
 

And last but not least are some good old fashioned craft sessions! These pretty much go hand-in-hand with our party planning, since we love to include tons of personal and themed details whenever we are hosting a party or event. Leading up to a party, we’ll typically divide and conquer our list of projects, but almost always schedule a final big craft session right beforehand to finish up any last minute details and also tackle those projects are just better doing together! One thing we always try and do together are cake pops. B is the master at dipping the pops, while M can’t get enough of covering them with lots of fun sprinkles.

Life By Nadine Lynn – Guest Post

Good morning loves!  For the next week I have a few of my blogger besties filling in for me.  I originally asked for their help as I was due to be attending Blogher and Blogger Bash in NYC but sometimes life has other plans and my Mother’s health has unfortunately taken a turn for the worse.  She is in the ICU and we are not sure what is going to happen next.  It is fortuitous that I had these posts scheduled because I am not really emotionally able to be my glittery self for you right now.  I am so thankful to my girls for guest posting for me!

To kick things off, Nadine is sharing a healthy post with you.  I asked her to share something related to health and fitness because I love her posts in that genre.  I hate the gym and Nadine makes it known that it isn’t effortless for her either.  She works hard at it and I find that so inspiring.

Hey there A Little Glitter readers!  My name is Nadine and I blog over at Life by Nadine Lynn.  I was honored when Pamela asked me to guest post for her!  I was even more flattered when she asked me to post about something fitness related.

You see, I am not a fitness blogger.  I haven’t always loved fitness.  In fact, there are even some days when I loathe it.  And that my friends, is the beauty of the journey!  It is never pretty or perfect, actually is is quiet messy.  I wanted to share some things I have learned along the way.

1. Find a friend.  This doesn’t have to be a IRL friend, a virtual friend will do just fine!  In fact, I have a constant group message going with two girls where we send each other sweaty selfies, share clean recipes and give and receive advice.  It is the most motivational thing I have ever been a part of.  Don’t have someone as passionate about fitness as you?  Hit me up, you can never have too many cheerleaders.

2. Everyone is different.  There are some runners out there that truly love running.  I am not one of those people.  There are some yogis out there getting all zen, but I can’t seem to shut off my mind.  Don’t feel like you have to enjoy the “it” workout.  Find what works for you.  I enjoy lifting weights.  I don’t enjoy running, but cardio is necessary for a healthy heart.  I found my balance.  I lift three days a week, and run two days a week.  If something quits working for me, I switch it up.

3. Abs are made in the kitchen.  I know you have heard this before, but it is true!!!  You cannot out work a bad diet.  You just can’t.  So slip into a healthy lifestyle that is sustainable for you. Maybe that is eating clean during the week, and having a little fun on the weekends.  Maybe you are 80/20 or a calorie counter.  I am not here to judge, we are all different.  I just know that when I eat like crap, I feel like crap and my jeans don’t fit.

4. You don’t have to leave your house to burn calories and build muscle.  There are tons of YouTube videos and apps out there for free!  My favorites are the PopSugar Fitness girls on Youtube and the Nike Training app.  Right now I am working on this PopSugar Arm Challenge in addition to my normal workouts.

After following this 21-day arm plan, not only will your arms look toned — you'll also be stronger.

5. Workout clothes can be inspiring!  There is nothing like that feeling when you slip into a cute new dress or pair of shoes.  Well, that feeling can follow you to the gym!  You don’t have to break the wallet to find great workout gear either!  Most of my stuff comes from TJ Maxx, Kohl’s, Target and JCPenney.  Here are a few things that I am swooning over.

My advice to you is to do what works for you.  Don’t let other’s try to bring you down.  People can be so judgy when it comes to diet and fitness.  Not everyone can eat clean 100% of the time.  If all you can do is have a lean cuisine for lunch and it is working for you, then by all means keep doing that!  Nothing irks me more than when I go to read a positive post and see comments bashing the person for just sharing what works for them.

I love paper goods so much!  I bet you guys didn’t know that about me but I will own it – I am a total greeting card nerd.  If I had the opportunity to open my own little shop today, I would sell either stationary or purses.

I enjoy getting a card in the mail and my friends and I send them to each other quite frequently.  I have a bunch of them on display on the ledge of my desk at work.  Most of them feature a cat on the front, so it helpful to new people passing by.  It alerts them right away to my crazy cat lady tendencies.  

Lately, I have been noticing an upward trend in the price of greeting cards (ummmm really?  $9 for a card?).  When I’m buying a special one for my bestie it doesn’t bother me so much but when I have to buy ten for all the birthday parties Taylor has to go to this month it is not my favorite.  (Especially since I know that those kids are going to chuck the card the second the party is over.  I cant blame them.  I used to do the same thing when I was younger.)

Recently, I was introduced to Walmart’s card and gift section and I am totally obsessed!  They have EVERYTHING you need to also create an inexpensive yet thoughtful gift.

I also picked up a birthday gift for my neighbor during my shopping.  She spends every day around the pool with her kiddos so I put together a little collection of things for her including a pretty, fluffy towel, magazines, a fun tumbler that will keep her drink cold and some candy.  I was able to spend more on her gift because I got her a beautiful card at only 47 cents!
