Caramel Brownie Trifle #HappyThanksGathering

Is anyone else just loving this time of year?  The kids are happily settled into their school routines, sports are wrapping up, Halloween is finished and the weather is a little cooler.  My house feels so cozy right now and I am starting to prep for my favorite holiday…THANKSGIVING!  I think Thanksgiving is the best because it is not focused on gifts.  It is about gathering around with family, eating a meal together, enjoying each other’s company and being thankful.

While hosting any holiday can be chaotic, one of the best tips I can give to help make it easier is to take care of as many details as possible in advance.  I do this so I am not completely nuts on the day of and I get a bit of time to hang with my guests.  One of the ways I accomplish this is to clean the house the night before.  Even if I am up late, I would rather do that than rush around right before everyone is due to arrive.

I make sure to pay extra attention to the rooms my guests will use the most (like the living room, dining room and bathroom).  I picked up some new cleaning supplies to help me out while I was at Walmart last weekend since they are running some great deals!

Windex Scrubbing Bubbles #HappyThanksgathering

I have seen commercials for  Scrubbing Bubbles® Toilet Cleaning Gel before but I had not used it until the other day.  It is super simple and keeps your toilet clean just by flushing!

Another tip I have for the bathroom is to add some special touches.  Most likely every guest will stop in there at some point in the day and they will notice them.  Last year I transformed my spare toilet paper rolls into little pumpkins using orange and green tissue paper and I got so many compliments on them!  You just roll your orange tissue around the toilet paper and tuck it into the top and bottom ends of the tube.  Then, you take a piece of green tissue paper and twist it and then stick it into the top of the roll to make a stem.

Another great way to have a hassle-free Thanksgiving is to prepare as much food as possible in advance.  Obviously your turkey has to be cooked that day but there is nothing preventing you from making some delicious desserts the day before.  One of my favorites (since I am a chocolate lover) is a Caramel Brownie Trifle.  It could not be easier to put together and it looks so beautiful on your holiday table.

For this decadent Caramel Brownie Trifle, you will need:

2 boxes of brownies (and ingredients to make them)

2 (8 oz) containers Cool Whip

caramel topping

chocolate or hot fudge topping

chocolate covered pretzels for the topping

  1. Prepare the brownies according to directions and let them cool. Cut them into squares.
  2. Place a layer of brownies on the bottom of the trifle bowl.
  3. Spoon on a layer of Cool Whip. Drizzle on caramel topping and chocolate fudge.
  4. Repeat with layers of brownies, Cool Whip, caramel and chocolate fudge until you reach the top.
  5. Cover the top with Cool Whip, caramel, and garnish with crumbled chocolate-covered pretzels.
  6. Refrigerate 8 hours or overnight.

Sephora Sale Picks {+ a $250 Gift Card Giveaway!}

Sephora Gift Card

Hey Ladies!  Sephora’s Holiday Shopping Event starts on Friday, November 13th and I cant wait! This year is even better than last because the sale is now 20% off instead of the usual 15%.

Here are the go-to items that I have in my cart:

A Little Glitter Go To Products Sephora Sale

I buy these every time there is a sale and they are a constant in my beauty arsenal.

1.  Clarisonic Replacement Brush Heads.  I cant live without my face brush.  My skin is super dry and I love the exfoliation this provides.  I get the deep pore ones.

2. Glam Glow.  This is hands down my favorite mask of all time.  I barely try any new ones anymore because I am so satisfied with Glam Glow.

3. Nars Lip Gloss in Risky Business.  This is my shade.  It is the only lipgloss I have worn for years.  It is universally flattering and looks great on all skin tones.

4.  Philosophy Purity Made Simple.  I use this daily on with my Clarisonic brush.  It is gentle yet effective.

5. Benefit Benetint.  Benetint is my favorite beauty product.  If I had to live on a desert island and I could only bring five things, I would choose a bottle of this as one of them.  That is how serious I am about Benetint.  My lips are naturally purplish and this wakes them up and makes them look slightly pink or red (depending on how I layer it) and then it dries and stays on.  It is not gloppy or gooey.  It just dyes my lips and I don’t feel it at all.  I love the way makeup makes me look but I hate to feel it on my face.  I cant wait to get home and scrub off my eye makeup and lip gloss.  With this, you don’t feel like you are wearing anything and I love that.

6. Bumble and Bumble Sunday Shampoo.  I use this every single Sunday night.  A lot of products have scents that I cant stand but this stuff smells like minty goodness.  I love the fresh fragrance and it gets my hair squeaky clean.  All the gunk and residue is stripped off and my blonde just glows after I use it.

I am also buying a few presents during the sale.  One of the best gift sets I have found is the Sephora Favorites Superstars set.  It’s regular price is $75.  So, with the 20% you will be saving for the sale, the new price is only $60!  The Beauty Blender alone (which I am a HUGE fan of) is $20.  That is a great deal.  I could picture myself giving this to my Sister or even Taylor’s babysitter.  This would make a great gift.

I am also planning to splurge during the sale and buy a few new products that I have been meaning to try.  Biana recommended Urban Decay’s Naked Skin Weightless Complete Coverage Concealer a while back and it has been languishing in my cart ever since. I cant wait to finally try it out!

What else should I try?  Do you guys have any suggestions?  Please leave them for me in the comments!

Also, I have teamed up with some of my best blogger gals to bring you a $250 Sephora Gift Card Giveaway!  You can enter using the Rafflecopter widget below.  Good luck and happy shopping!

Happy Friday!

Hey Loves!  Happy Friday!  Thank you all so much for the positive emails and good vibes.  Things have been suckish lately and I have been in a funk but I am working my way out of it and trying to stay positive.  I am SO looking forward to this weekend and some rest.  I am linking up with AprilAmanda and Della for my Friday Favorites!  Let’s jump right in…

1.  New Apartment.  I finally found my new place!  After looking at tons of overpriced and outdated apartments, (I am talking mortgage rates for places with mauve carpeting) I lucked out and found my dream place!  The landlord is painting all the rooms for me so I am busy picking out colors and scouring Pinterest.  I am pretty excited to get in there.  I am loving coral and gold lately so I am hoping to incorporate some of that color palette in there.

 2.  Amazon Fire Stick.  I didn’t even know this was a thing until a week or so ago.  The TV I have in my bedroom is not a smart TV and with my new mattress I have been dying to hang in there and watch Netflix.  I was about to cave and buy a new TV when someone clued me in to the Firestick.  GAME CHANGER!  For $39.99 you plug a little USB-looking stick into your TV and suddenly it connects to the internet.  You can access Netflix, Amazon Prime, Hulu, etc.  It is amazing!  I am definitely planning on doing some heavy vegetating this weekend.

3. Pretty Little Liars.  I never watched this on TV but always heard it was good.  I started watching thanks to my new Fire Stick and I am OBSESSED.  I also turned my best friend on to it and we have both been binging.  I am still only on the first season (I think there are five more) but I am DYING to know who A is!

4. Nutella Swirled Banana Bread.  Yes.  This is happening.  Does anyone else bake when they are upset?  It is always something that comforts me.

5. Giveaway!  Starting on 11/13, Sephora is having their annual Holiday Shopping Event where you can save 20% on all online and in-store purchases!  I dont know about you but my cart is already filled and waiting for the sale to start!  To celebrate this awesome sale, me and some of my favorite bloggers are hosting a giveaway with a $250 Sephora gift card as the prize!  You can enter below using the Rafflecopter widget.  Good luck!

Sad Times

Last Wednesday night my Mom lost her fight against breast cancer.  She passed peacefully and we had a memorial for her this past Monday.  This week has been a difficult one but I am hanging in there and trying to go about my daily routine instead of dwelling.

Sometimes, I have a hard time knowing where to draw the line between blogging and my personal life.  I did feel like I wanted to share this information with you guys (since I do consider you my friends) but when bad things happen I tend to stay quiet and it is hard for me to create a post about something that makes me sad.  Most of the time I will just abstain from posting instead of being a bummer.  (That is why there have been lapses in my posting these past few months.  This year has been a tough one emotionally between my separation, my Mother’s illness and now her passing.)

I am relieved my Mom is out of pain (as the last few months had been rough) and I am also thankful that I was able to spend time with her and create new memories that I can hold in my heart moving forward.
