Paramour by Cirque du Soleil

Paramour Cirque Du Soleil Review

Last weekend Taylor and I took in a preview of the new show, Paramour by Cirque du Soleil. This was my eighth Cirque show.  I usually attend one of their touring performances each year when it comes to NYC.  I find the acrobatics so beautiful and I am astounded by the graceful way the performers move.   Sometimes, during the most difficult part of the show (when the actor is twisted up like a pretzel or balancing twenty feet up in the air on their tiptoes) I whisper to Taylor, “I could do that.”  Sweet thing that she is, she usually nods and agrees out of pity because I am an uncoordinated mess.   Continue reading

Happy May you guys!  I am loving that we are already in May – I just wish Mother Nature would get on board!  It has been raining for DAYS in NYC and I think it is supposed to continue on until Monday.  Hopefully after that it will start to feel like Spring and I can enjoy some Sunshine!  I am really looking forward to this weekend and spending time with my daughter for Mother’s Day.  We have some special things planned.   Continue reading

Cirque du Soleil Amaluna Review

I have to begin this blog post on a bit of a sour note (but don’t worry it has a happy ending). I mentioned in April that I bought tickets to go with my family to see Cirque du Soleil’s new show, Amaluna. My husband and I have been to a bunch of their shows over the years and we are big fans.  The tickets can be expensive so we don’t always bring Taylor but in this case we decided to take her along as a special treat.  The New York showing of Amaluna takes place at Citifield (where the Mets play).  Cirque sets up a beautiful blue and yellow tent in the parking lot at the stadium.  I have seen a few shows in other permanent venues (like Radio City Music Hall) and I prefer the marquee.  It feels more intimate.

Traffic in NYC can be a bit tricky so we left for the show an hour and a half before it began (even though it should have only taken us thirty minutes to get there).  We wound up getting stuck in HORRIBLE gridlock and arrived at Citifield just in time to make it to our seats…or we would have except that for some awful reason Cirque scheduled their show on that day to start at the exact time that the Mets game was ending.  (Picture thousands of people spilling out into the streets where we needed to go and all the parking lots being closed off to incoming traffic so the baseball fans could get out.)  I literally started to cry as I watched the minutes tick away knowing that we were missing the show and were powerless to do anything but wait.  After circling Queens for a half hour we were finally permitted to park and rushed in to watch the rest of the show.  It was wonderful but my heart was not in it.

The next day I called Cirque du Soleil’s main office to complain about the timing of their show that day.  I am not really sure what I hoped to accomplish.  I did not expect the kindness of the operator at all.  The gentleman that I spoke with could not have been nicer. He apologized and offered me tickets to any upcoming date of Amaluna that I would like to attend.  He gave me the same seats and had the tickets waiting for me at the box office.

Our new tickets were for Sunday, May 4th and we left SUPER early (so as not to miss it for the second time).  Of course we hit no traffic that day and wound up having over an hour to kill before showtime.  Since Citifield is next to Flushing Meadows Park and it was a beautiful day, we got to take a walk around and explore the Unisphere and the grounds of the World Fair.  I’ve driven past the big globe many times and have seen it featured in movies (like Men in Black) but I have never actually been there.  The flowers were in bloom and it was a really great afternoon.

Amaluna was AWESOME this time around.  I am so glad we got to catch the full show. The beginning was the best part.  I don’t want to go into too much detail about the show (so as not to spoil it for anyone) but I will say that it did not disappoint.  I also want to applaud Cirque du Soleil’s customer service skills.  They are a top notch organization and I was so impressed with how well they handled the situation.

P.S. The tunic that I am wearing can be purchased from White Plum Boutique.  They were kind enough to send it to me and I am obsessed with it.  I wish I had it in every color!  It is extremely flattering and super comfortable.  I also want to note that sometimes I have problems with the sleeves of my shirts being too short (#tallgirlproblems) but these hit at just the right place.  White Plum Boutique is also sweetly offering my readers 20% off their website until May 13th with the promotional code GLITTER20.  Happy shopping!

High Five for Friday!

High Five for Friday GraphicGood morning and HAPPY FRIDAY!  This week seemed never ending!  I woke up on Thursday and thought it was Friday.  Then, I remembered what day it actually was and it was such a letdown.  Anyway, it IS really Friday now so all is well.  This week I am linking up with The Lauren ElizabethThe Diary of a Real Housewife and Hello Happiness.  If you get a moment, you should swing by their blogs and show some love.

Without further ado, here are my five favorites from the past week:

Amaluna

Amaluna 2

1.  I just bought tickets for the family to see the new Cirque Du Soleil show, Amaluna, in April.  We go to a lot of their shows and I cant wait to see this one because there is water element to it that should be different and entertaining.  For those that don’t know – Cirque Du Soleil is a french circus.  It is full of colors, beautiful sets and costumes, amazing acrobatics and wonderful music – without any of the clowns or animals (which is a plus for me.  I don’t think the animals are treated properly and that is my least favorite part of Ringling Brothers and Big Apple Circus).  It is a more streamlined, grown up circus focused on the acrobatics.  I do see many children there and it is suitable for people of all ages but it is not as cutesy as a regular circus.

Retainer Cases

2.  I went to my dentist for an adjustment in my Invisalign last month.  (My teeth shifted due to having a crown replaced.)  I went back on Saturday to pick up my trays and discovered there were 10 sets of them (20 weeks worth).  Also, my poor little Taylor had to pick up her spacer from the orthodontist this week.  (She has a narrow smile and has to wear this for about nine months before she can get her braces on.)  So, we have our little matching retainer cases in the bathroom.  This is not really a favorite now but I guess it will be when we both have perfect smiles in the future.  Also, it is really sweet how mature and responsible Taylor is with her spacer.

Meatloaf

3.  My hubby has been working a lot of overtime lately, so I have been trying to prepare dinners that I can make the night before and then easily re-heat (since we are eating a lot later than usual).  I made meatloaf this week that we had on Tuesday and Wednesday night.  It was absolutely delicious and so nice to have a home-cooked meal despite our busy schedules.  If you are interested, the recipe is here.

Soccer

4.  Taylor had her soccer luncheon and got a pretty fancy trophy.  It has a ball that spins and a plaque engraved with her name.  I just love her little face.

Snoring

5.  This made me laugh.  I totally need one of these!  My hubby’s snoring is so loud.

Okay lovelies, I hope you have a fabulous weekend!  My birthday is Monday (St. Paddy’s Day) so we are going to dinner to celebrate on Saturday night.  We also have a birthday party for our friend’s adorable little girl so it should be a fun few days!
