A Little Glitter Turns One!

A Little Glitter Blogiversary Giveawaycake c/o fake cupcake creations **  cake topper c/o glambanners

Today marks A Little Glitter‘s ONE YEAR BLOGIVERSARY!  I cant believe it has been a whole year!  I guess time flies when you’re having fun!

I can think of no better way to mark this momentous occasion than a fabulous photo shoot and a GIGANTIC giveaway!

A Little Glitter Blogiversary GiveawayA Little Glitter Blogiversary GiveawayA Little Glitter Blogiversary GiveawayOne of the things I love most about running ALG is the opportunity to meet incredible people.  I am shocked by the lovely, intelligent and genuine individuals that I get to interact with every day.  When I started this blog I was worried that I would be mean-girled by other bloggers.  I was afraid that they would gang up on me because I was a newbie or be mean to me because I was their competition.  I have seen chat rooms and forums filled with awful internet trolls and I assumed bloggers would be the same.  I am pleased to say that I was totally wrong.  Everyone I’ve gotten to know  has been amazing and I am happy to report that some of you guys have even become my friends in real life.

Speaking of “in real life”…I need to give major props to two people.  Number one is my hubby.  He is a huge support system for me and always there to help with my sometimes harebrained (but always fun) ideas.  Without him I wouldn’t even have this blog and he deserves a lot of credit for listening to me talk about it endlessly without rolling his eyes.

A Little Glitter Blogiversary Giveaway

Another person that I need to thank is Frank Pensabene.  He is the only photographer I use.   I can call him and tell him that I want to do a blogiversary photo shoot and he will let me bounce ideas off of him and not think I am crazy (or at least not verbalize that).  Even as I get more out of control by deciding to wear a full length sequin gown, order a white sheepskin rug, get a fake cake and buy tons of balloons he doesnt bat an eye.  I dont know many straight men that would embrace that type of behavior.  Frank shot the pictures and our Christmas pictures (which came out amazing and will be on the blog next week).  Here is a ink to his website.  If you are in the NYC Metro Area and need a photographer I highly recommend him.

Another favorite thing that I get to do as a blogger is host giveaways!  In order to thank you for making this such a great year, I have put together a MASSIVE and FABULOUS contest!  Sharing things with my readers makes me so happy!  Like with most things, I couldn’t stop myself from going big on this.

This giveaway is a great one!  It consists of ten prizes for ten winners!  Here is more information on the items up for grabs and the sponsors that have made this all possible:

I have mentioned in the past that I am OBSESSED with my May Book.  I carry it with me everywhere and I love it!  Their website is one of my favorites since it is so user-friendly and you can play around with all their different fonts, styles and patterns to see how your May Book will turn out.  I am a visual person and I love that I can view my product before I order it.  If you win this prize you can customize a book for yourself!

P.S. The May Book was voted one of Oprah’s Favorite Things for 2014!  If it is good enough for Oprah, it’s good enough for me!

The Live It Up Collection by Cirque Colors!A Little Glitter Blogiversary Giveaway

I am a huge nail polish person!  My nails have not been naked for years.  When I met the creator of Cirque Colors, Annie Pham, I couldn’t help but pepper her with questions about how she got started.  She answered them all so gracefully and has such a wonderful energy.  The name Cirque, meaning ring or circle, represents the color wheel and the endless color possibilities in the continuum.   As soon as I saw this collection I knew that it was perfect for this giveaway!  Festive holiday glitters!  Check!  Cirque Colors is also including their white and black polishes so that you can put a layer of one of them on first to make the glitters in this Live It Up Collection really pop.

You can find Cirque Colors here:

Sephora Favorites!

Since Sephora is kicking off it’s sale tomorrow I figured I would share with you the items that are already in my cart waiting to be ordered.  I am stocking up on a lot of my go-to products and if you frequent these parts chances are you have heard of them before.

Top Beauty Products

1.  Nars Risky Business.  This is my favorite lip color.  It has just the right amount of shine, works for day or night and is not sticky.  It lasts and has no glitter.  (The only time I hate glitter is in lip gloss.)

2.  Bumble & Bumble Sunday Shampoo.   This cleans all the gunk out of your hair.  All that hair spray and product build up will disappear and your hair will be squeaky clean and shiny.  Love.

3.  Benefit They’re Real Mascara.  This mascara is my first desert island pick.  That means if I were going to be trapped on a desert island and I could only have five items for the rest of my life – I would make this my first choice.  I used to use L’Oreal Voluminous and then I got a sample of this and I am HOOKED.  The only thing bad thing is that the tube dries out quickly but I have rectified that by buying the smaller sample size tubes.  They are half the product and half the price.  Plus I think it is more hygienic to replace eye makeup more frequently.

4.  Philosophy Purity.  I use this to wash my face with my Clarisonic every day.  It leaves my face soft and smooth.

5.  Hope in a Jar Night.  This is a recent addition to my repertoire.   I only tried and fell in love with it this past year but it has become a staple for me.  I wrote a review on it here.

6.  Benefit Benetint.  I use this product EVERY SINGLE DAY.  I have mentioned previously that I suffer from a condition I have taken to calling “corpse lips”.  My mouth has a natural bluish tint.  I use gloss/lipstick but it wears off.  Then I look dead again.  This is a lip stain.  It is a liquid.  I apply it with a little brush and it dries.  The effect is similar to eating a red Popsicle.  I apply lip gloss over it.  When I am eating or as the gloss wears off my lips still look rosy and pretty.

What are you buying at the sale?  In addition to the above items for myself, I have a bunch of gifts that I am planning to purchase from Sephora but that will be tomorrow’s post.

Also, thanks to the lovely bloggers below,  you can enter to win a $100 gift card to Sephora to help you pay for all your beauty booty.  Good luck!

Philosophy: Hope In A Jar Night Review

I am a Philosophy fan, so when I noticed that Sephora had a sample-sized version of their product, Hope in a Jar Night, available as a reward during my latest shopping trip, I was all over it.

Philosophy Hope In A Jar Night Review

I was so excited that I tried it the same night I bought it.  After washing my face I slathered it on.  Immediately, I was struck by two things.  The first was that the smell is terrible.  It reminds me of Elmer’s glue or some kind of familiar chemical.  The second was the consistency of the product.  This cream is thick.  I felt like I was putting hand lotion on my face.  I was really scared that it would cause me to break out but I held off from wiping it off.  Immediately after applying it I realized that because of those two reasons I was not going to like it.  There was no way I was going to use it again either.

UNTIL….I woke up the next day and not only had I not broken out…my skin looked radiant and smooth.  I thought maybe it was a coincidence so I used it again.  For the second time I was appalled by the odor and wary of the density of the product and again I awoke to a smooth and glowing face.

I did some more research and I learned that Hope in a Jar Night contains glycolic acid.  I am assuming that is what makes your face so wonderfully glowing and smooth (and I think it is a safe bet to attribute the smell to that as well).

I have to say that the results that this product delivers far outweigh the few minutes of discomfort due to the bad smell and I would recommend it.  I did not think I would be giving it a positive review in the minutes immediately following the first application.  I was ready to re-wash my face and chuck the sample in the trash but I am glad I slept on it.  I just bought the full-sized tub.

Have you guys ever tried a product, formed an opinion and then went on to be surprised by the outcome?

Last minute gift guide for the gents…

Here are some last minute gift ideas for the guys in your life…

Gift Guide for the Guys!

Gift Guide for the Guys!

1.  USB Mixtape from CB2.  This made me feel nostalgic.  I miss mixtapes.

2.  Sephora Fragrance Sampler.  This kit is a home run.  I buy a few of these every year because people are guaranteed to love them.  It comes with 14 samples of Sephora’s most popular men’s fragrances plus a travel bag.  The recipient can choose their favorite scent and then redeem the included certificate for a full-sized bottle.  Fragrance is such a personal choice, so it is nice for the giftee to be able to try a couple and choose which one they like best.

3.  Moustache Pub Beer Mugs.  These are awesome.  ‘Nuff said.

4.  Carbon Fiber Watch Case.  If the man in your life is a watch collector this makes a nice showpiece.  If a man is going to wear a gentleman’s watch he needs to store it like a gentleman as well.  3246543512 individual watch boxes strewn about the house is not a good look.

5.  The Art of Shaving Shaving Cream – Sandalwood.  I bought this for my husband a few years ago and he refuses to use anything else.  It has a nice oil that leaves his skin lightly scented and bump-free.

6.  Creed Millesime Imperial.  I bought this for my husband for the first time ten years ago.  I also wear it.  It smells like heaven.  I read an interview a few years back (I just scoured the internet and could not find the article, of course) where they asked Jay Z what the best gift he received was and he said, “Creed in the gold bottle”.  That alone should tell you something because you KNOW Jay Z gets some awesome gifts.  They sell this at Neiman Marcus but I just located it on overstock.com for a great price.  The reviews seem to indicate that it is authentic so I am going to order a bottle and link to them as well.  That is a great deal!

7.  The Northface Chilkat II Boots.  These will keep his feet warm and insulated.  Warm + dry feet = happy man.
